About this Cook
My husband and I are bestfriends! We enjoy every minute together. I love to cook/bake and watch him enjoy every last bite. We have 4 children together, 3 boys and 1 girl.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake, anything will do. I like trying new recipes. My favorite things to cook are the things from my husbands childhood, Hungarian squash, goulash and spaghetti and meatballs.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Birthday dinners. Our family tradition is to have the birthday person pick a meal, and I create it! Anything goes. We have had anything from finger foods to homemade fettucine with chicken and broccoli.
My cooking triumphs
Moving from canned/boxed foods to fresh homemade foods!
My cooking tragedies
Setting the stove on fire while trying to make our Anniversary dinner this October. I decided to try a new lemon and herb whole chicken with artichoke hearts. The grease was popping up and set the stove on fire. We found a way to put it out without destroying the chicken or the stove. Dinner was good, and the Anniversary ended with a bang, not a boom!

South Texas Carne Guisada
This was a nice change from the ordinary! We never do anything different with our steak, just season and broil. I recall my mom making fajitas when I was a girl, but she used a package mix that just won't cut it in our home. This was better than the fajitas from when I was a girl. I would recommend one change, next time we will cut the cumin down by 1/2( it really over powered). Other than that this was yummy, and filling :) We added extra sharp cheese and some lettuce to the finished guisada, and this added more bulk. I made some white rice with beef broth, used 1 1/2 cups of beef broth to 1 cup of rice. A nice subtle side dish to the meal.

Kristen's Awesome Oatmeal Cookies
AWESOME!!! I have been searching for an oatmeal cookie recipe, and this is it! I did take some of the other review ideas...used 3/4 cup of butter instead of shortening, added 1 1/2 cups Hershey's chocolate chips, an 8oz bag of cranberries and cut the cinnamon down to 1/2 tsp. I also baked them for about 10 mins then used a spatula to slightly pat them down, then continued to bake them for the remaining 3 mins. DO NOT over cook these! The tops of the cookies will look underdone but will continue to cook while cooling. These are the best oatmeal cookies I have ever made! Soft and chewy on the inside and crisp on the outside. Just the way we like them, but could never seem to get them. Thanks for the addition to the recipe book, this ones a keeper!
