Heavenly White Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
I've made this three times now and it's become a family favorite. I failed to beat the egg whites sufficiently the first time and the cake was a little dry - but the flavor was so good, I tried it again. This time I followed the recipe more exactly and it turned out perfectly. My only variation was to use 2 tsp. of vanilla and no almond extract. I also used bakers sugar the third time and it made it more moist as well. I'm amazed I can make a cake this good. Seriously, wedding cakes aren't this good! I frosted it with Wedding Cake Frosting also from this site and it's just so good. I'm using this recipe for my twin daughter's second birthday this weekend.

Honey Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
Our new everyday bread recipe. I have to make all of our bread due to allergies and this is fantastic. My husband says it's the best yet (and I have tried a lot of recipes). I upped the servings to 14 so I could bake this in a pullman loaf pan. It was perfect - and it made beautiful, thin slices despite its softness. The only change I made was to up the honey to 1/4 cup. I also mixed it in my stand mixer and kneaded it with the dough hook and then did a normal rise, punch down, shape and put into bread pan and let rise again. I baked at 350 for about 40 minutes. I love this recipe!

Glazed Cinnamon Biscuits

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
Ten thumbs up from my family. Easy to make - I followed the recipe except that I sprinkled brown sugar in with the cinnamon. So quick and easy and it makes just enough for a treat.

Easy Cheesy Chicken I

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
Wow! My 3 year olds went nuts for this. I had to substitute since I didn't have cheese soup or cream of chicken. Instead, I used cottage cheese, a chicken bouillion cube and a little french onion dip. My kids are eating the chicken (shredded) by the bowlful!

Southern Apple Tuna Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2011
Really great. I made it per the recipe. The pic shown has to have more than 1 T of mayo. Mine didn't look like that at all. But it was really good and I'm sure I'll make it again and again.

Vegan Brownies

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2011
Since I'm new to this, I made it according to the recipe EXCEPT I was out of white flour, so I used whole wheat pastry flour. They were fine. Better than most - way better than a mix. The second time I made them, I made them with white flour AND after tasting the batter and finding it good, but a little on the bland side, I looked around for ingredients to add that could help perk up the flavor. I wish I had seen the cayenne pepper recommendation! Instead, I went with a couple of spoons of cognac. Man! It was really good! You couldn't taste it, but it just added that layer of complexity it needed to move it from pretty darn good to great.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
If I make it again, it won't be with beer. I am trying everything I can to salvage this - I'm either just not a beer drinker or the kind I used was not the best for this recipe. I'll try this again and substitute chicken broth and take the spice level down a little too - a little too much for our taste right out of the pot. However, we've had things with this level before that calmed down the day after to make it perfect for us. Still, as is, this recipe did not work for us.

Whole Grain Waffles

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2010
I made it as written. My kids wouldn't eat them Very bitter taste that could only be hidden with copious amounts of syrup - which kind of ruins the whole idea of eating healthy waffles. We like the Mayo Clinic whole grain waffle recipe lots more.
