I am a novice cook at best having realized my passion for baking and cooking late in life but I am enjoying my new found hobby. As a working mom with a very busy schedule simple and fast was always my motto, but now that everyone has moved away and my work schedule is much more relaxed, I find I am enjoying trying new recipes and foods I never thought I could make.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking goodies for the office. I have always (until recently) worked in small office settings with only a few coworkers and an extremely busy settings. Now bringing in snacks and having potlucks is almost a weekly treat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When everyone was at home, making my own spaghetti sauce and chili as well as a chocolate chip cookie that came in my children's cookbook was the extent of my skills. Now I enjoy making flour tortillas and chicken tamales as well as a wide variety of goodies to take to the office.
My cooking triumphs
I think learning how to make tortillas. Anyone who has every had a homeade tortilla will never go back to store bought tortillas again. Making tamales was also a great triumph. Looking forward to learning how to make beignets and english muffins next.
My cooking tragedies
Wow! I know there have been many but I think I've blocked them out. Probably the most remembered is cookies where I've fogotten to set the timer. Those and recipes that try to get away with ingredients that I don't consider quality ingredients.
