I am 72 yrs old and widowed, I cook from my wheelchair as I can't be on my feet for long periods. One of my sons, Don lives with me, he likes to do some cooking and it is always very good, but I do most of it. I really enjoy it when he makes babyback ribs. I have 4 more sons in MI who will call and request recipes from their chilhood days. I was born and raised in Michigan, but now live in Tennessee and love it here. It is a beautiful state and have been here for almost 12 yrs.
I am blessed with wonderful neighbors and a church family. And I enjoy having family and friends visit from Michigan and Florida. I especially enjoy it when my oldest son David visits from MI, because he grills some stuffed jalepinos that are great. Plus he does other cooking while he is here, I think grilling is his speciality.
My favorite things to cook
Most anything because I enjoy cookig. Probably Polish Stew because it is so easy and quite tasty.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Stuffed Cabblage, Polish Stew, Lemon Delight, Apple Pie, Chocolate Cake\Choclate Frosting. Butter Cream Frosting this is very tasy and easy because I usually have all the ingredients on hand as it doesnt use powdered sugar.
My cooking triumphs
I baked my first apple pie when I was 10 yrs old. I had never done any cooking before that. I had to keep my mom amd grandma out of the kitchen because they wanted to help me, I didn't want their help. They were shocked when my pie turned out perfect.
I baked them for a restaurant for a few years and couldn't hardly keep up. I did pumpkin, lemon, chocolate, and apple pies, chocolate cake and biscuits for them. (I didn't do this at ten, I was a little older.)
My cooking tragedies
I have had them but can't remember (whoops, I just remembered a recent one this past Easter). I decided to have some doctored canned baked beans. I call them Polish Baked Beans because I put kielbasa in them. Well they were a disaster, because I forgot them and they cooked to mush. YUCK!!!
