I'm a newlywed wife to a soldier in the US Army. We've recently relocated to Fort Hood, Texas. During the time before we were married we had an awful habit of going out to eat multiple nights a week. For the money you spend for a night out, so many groceries can be bought and then turned into the yummiest creations. Now we have one date night out a week on Fridays, and every other night I switch between traditional meals and new ones. Many of the new recipes are now traditions. I love the pride that comes with my husband taking a bite and the look on his face... and then going back for seconds.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta and soy crumble marinara, always doctoring the sauce. Layered bean dip. Dijon crusted salmon. Eggplant parmesan. Pot roast in the crock pot.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Licking the bowl after mixing (raw eggs, who cares). Mommy's Emerald Salad during the holidays. Mixing cookies with your hands. Laughing until you nearly choke at the dinner table.
My cooking triumphs
The first recipe I tried on here, a baked salmon dish, turned out so good that we were sad that there wasn't any left over!
My cooking tragedies
When my husband and I first starting dating, I thought I'd try to make Chicken Marsala, his favorite. The pasta was hard, the sauce was tragic, and the chicken was rubbery. I was embarrassed and heartbroken, but he ate it anyway.
