Special Irish Beef Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
Sweet. This looks like what my mom makes. Serve in bowls with a pepper grinder and tons of bread. Drop dumplings go great with this, about half a dozen or so.

Good. The trick is often to make the sauce yourself or start with your homemade spaghetti sauce.

The quality of the ingredients makes a BIG difference. We're lucky to live in the warm Californian area that was formerly prime farmland.

Chocolate Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
Better than my grandmothers, in a different way. It's very runny, I'd cut the liquid a little or possibly add a thickener like flour or corn starch.

Kashmiri-Style Kidney Beans with Turnips

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
When I was a kid, I used to pick kidney beans out of my mom's otherwise outstanding chili. This is not a kidney bean dish, it's fabulous.

Sukhothai Pad Thai

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
1. Presoak rice stick noodles for about 30 minutes in cold water. 2. Skip daikon, it's hard to find and adds almost no flavor. 3. Reduce sugar used to be more authentic and also more palatable. 4. Use raw sugar. 5. Use a mini food processor to chop the nuts. 6. Substitute chicken for soy.

Hummus III

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
1. Save about 2/3 of a can of juice. 2. Boil garbanzo beans for 10 min on low to get a smooth finish, otherwise it turns out grainy.
