About this Cook
I am 24, and have cooked before I could even reach the back burners on the stove. I enjoy cooking tremendously (who here doesn't?). I live at home with my boyfriend of six years. He has never learned to cook and would starve to death on mac and cheese without me. He eats kosher, so my cooking has changed drastically over the last few years. We are both fans of eating vegetarian, and since I only eat seasonal, US grown food, we are always looking for new recipies to use what we have available.
My favorite things to cook
I love making vegetarian recipies and love mediterranean food. Some of my favorites are a divine Caponatta, my pomegranate and walnut duck breast, and my homemade strawberry rhubarb pie.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family was southern, so I grew up on southern food. I rarely eat it anymore, because it's not healthy and I can't get my boyfriend to touch the stuff (he's a Yankee). But I still LOVE my biscuits, meatloaf, and stuffed peppers!

Molasses Cookies
Wonderful! Perfectly chewy in the middle, crisp on the edges. Like many other reviewers, I used brown sugar instead of white and butter in lieu of margarine. Excellent recipe!

Red Velvet Cake I
The cake itself was good, although I followed other reviewers advice and subsitituted 1 cup of oil for the shortening and increased the sugar to 2 cups. I made the icing, and was very disappointed. I followed the recipe to the letter, only to find it was a soupy mixture that didn't thicken despite every effort. Luckily I had ingredients for cream cheese icing on had, although it's not my personal favorite. Great cake, awful icing!

Southwest Chicken
Kind of bland. I think with a a heavier hand for spices, this dish would be quite goo.
