Spring Cleaning Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2012
I make something very similar. When a cereal box gets emptied, I save all the "bits" and crumbs that are left and put them in a jar. Everything gets mixed all together. At cookie making time these "bits" are used where it calls for oatmeal. Depending on the type of cereal it sometimes also replaces the coconut. Anything and everything gets used, Those are really a "clean out the pantry" type cookie. I make them alot and never get the same thing twice. Thanks for sharing your recipe. It is always nice when someone works out the "kinks" (quantities) I guestimate a lot when I am creating. The kids love it when we make these as they can add the extras that they prefer - the choices are unlimited. Will have to make them with the grandsons some day. Their dad has a KitchenAid so we can just dump and create. Thanks again.

Almond Flour Waffles

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2011
I have made these for a long time - just as listed. I have a heat control on my waffle iron so cook them at a lower temp for longer and they do get crispy. We also make them while camping in the pie irons / bush pie makers over the campfire - those get CRISPY So many allergies in the family and these are safe for all and no one knows they are anything but "breakfast" Personally I prefer them cold

Doggy Meatloaf with Vegetables

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2011
I have made this recipe for years as my old dog got quite fussy before the end. She couldn't smell her food anymore so the addition of garlic helped and she just had to have her tomatoes or tomato sauce. I also pureed the veggies as she was picky and pushed them aside if it was one of her fussy days. I froze the leftovers and left a few in the fridge for a few days. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND LABELLING THIS IN SEVERAL LANGUAGES ''' FOR THE DOG ''' There is nothing in here that is harmful to people. Good thing. The significant other packed it for lunch with some left over pasta..... Didn't come home barking (at least not more than usual) so it was okay. Never mentioned that it was for the dog.......

Creamiest Ever Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2011
Is there a typo in listing the ingredients??? 8 cups of milk for 1 cup rice??? then an additional cup of rice?? I halved the milk and the 2 eggs still didn't make it thick enough. To salvage it I added 2 cups of cooked rice and 1 cup of raisins and it was still a tad too mucky - I hate to think what I would have had to deal with if I had used all of the milk - what a waste of time - I will only rate a recipe if I make it exactly as written. Any changes then I am rating something else. So I give this recipe only a single star so I can make the posting. Sorry but won't ever look at this recipe again

Peanut Butter Cupcakes

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2011
Made these a few weeks ago and turned out great. I did not alter the repice at all. Made a second batch and only filled the cups half full then put in a spoon of grape jelly in some and raspberry jam in others then topped up with more batter. Had a couple of bananas that had seen a better life so smooshed them up and did the same - adding a spoon full to some of the cupcakes. What a pleasant surprise for those biting in for the first mouthful. No frosting but just a drizzle of glaze for a bit of decoration. These were plenty sweet and plenty tasty without icing. No one knew what "centre" they were getting so each cupcake was a pleasant surprise. This will be a keeper but will have to experiment with applesauce in place of the shortening - especially as there is an OVER ABUNDANCE of apples at my house. Canned applesauce is filling the shelves and if it works in this recipe will be put to good use this fall and winter.

Aloha Coleslaw

would it be possible to post these reviews with the most current on the recipe page instead of reading an 8 year old review first - go from most current to oldest Too much salt - it just draws the water out of the cabbage and makes it mushy and runny

Tea Time Tasties

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2011
When I make these, I use medium sized muffin cups and press only half way up the sides - then filling seems to be just the right amount Made these for years using both walnuts and / or pecans. And Macleod 26 - ever think Jane might be Aunt Jean giving us the real recipe but fools you by not giving the entire recipe. I have a friend that always leaves out one ingredient - not a key ingredient but one that will make a bit of a difference I enjoy this site so much - but really get miffed by folks that rate a recipe as a 4 or a 5 but then go on to say HOWEVER.......... I added or I changed.... It is no longer the same recipe and therefore should not be rated as such. They are rating their own "recipe" Enjoy creating no matter what recipe you use. Economics plays a big part in what I create. I assist young women with families to develop some life skills. We find a recipe and then develop it to use ingredients that are both affordable and healthy. Adjusting spices and flavourings to individual preferences is a must. Nothing is more satisfying for them than to create something from scratch rather than purchase pre-packaged. And the kids can help. Saves money, creates some bonding time and is much healthier. No more fast food, purchased cookies or snack bars. They didn't realize how fulfilling this would make them feel. And gained confidence in their abilities
