I took Barb Maxwell the Appalachian "kid's" advice on the bean. The beans turned out wonderful. I followed the recipe for the most part but I made some modifications. I did 4 cups water and 4 cups chicken broth. I doubled the veggies...but I also added some additional seasoning (along with what was added already) to zest it up a little. I added 1 can of diced tomatoes (Italian style), 1/2 tsp paprika, 1/2 tsp cumin, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp garlic pepper and 1 tsp of Italian seasoning. It was delicious. All 4 of my kids loved it. Serve with warm corn bread!
