About this Cook
Harsh critics. Just because we like a dish doesn't mean we love it. Always looking to improve - though when something is awesome - it's awesome.
My favorite things to cook
Holiday feasts
My favorite family cooking traditions
1/2 of us have little other than classic traditions. The other half has adaptive cooking and classic traditions.
My cooking triumphs
First shot "walk-off home run" on a Raspberry-chocolate Torte by America's Test Kitchen. Some minor thing had always troubled a cake we had made, but this one was spot-on. And, by coincidence, it was a crazy tasty recipe.
My cooking tragedies
Chocolate-Mayonnaise cake first try. Disaster. Burned all around. Saved by trimming it to the size of a Barbie cake. Many tears on one half of our team, adaptation (for the save) by the other (less-sensitive) half of our team.
Recipe Reviews 6 reviews
In our opinion this was better than the recipe done by America's Test Kitchen (hence the 5-star). We followed the recipe exactly. If I was making it again for myself, I would add a chopped jalepeno, but I am a heat-lover... I did try adding some tobasco to one of my servings, but it was a fail. It just didn't blend well with the other flavors. I did note that the heat level of the tobasco was enhanced, so be aware if you are going to try to spice it up a bit that your results may exceed expectations.

Roasted Sweet Potato Corn Chowder
I mis-read the instructions and added the roasted sweet potatoes too early... and it still was excellent. I think I had 4 bowls the first day. Nice, lightly sweet and savory flavor. I tried adding Cholula to my second bowl (I like some zip) and it didn't work. On my 3rd bowl I added tobasco. That really added a nice zing too it.

Herbed Mushrooms with White Wine
Very good. This dish is simple, quick and easy. Made it EXACTLY per recipe (which colors my opinions regarding other reviews). Complexity/Depth of flavor are my requirements for 5 stars, and I would not say that this dish satisfies that in either case. That being said, it is still a very good side dish. Showstopper? No. But, if you like mushrooms, you'll definitely enjoy this and you'll get no complaints at your dinner party!
