About this Cook
I am a stay at home mom. I used to work in the nursing field mostly with the mentally challenged and mentally ill. I use cooking as a stress reliever...it doesn't always help but it will at least get my mind off what is really bothering me. I have always loved to cook but did spend a couple years when I was first married without a very wide variety of things I could actually cook without burning. Through trial and error and the love of a man who went to culinary school there is now nothing that I will not try to make, usually thank goodness with success.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking mostly. I usually stick more toward desserts when baking but I am starting to branch out more with making more breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My daddy was from the south and highly believed that gravy was a food group so that was the first thing us kids were taught to make. This has been continued with our kids. Also I came from a huge family on both of my parents sides which meant multiple meals with different traditions at the holidays. We now live too far from my other remaining relatives to have the same traditions of family house hopping for multiple meals so I have taken to starting our own tradition....inviting lots of people with me cooking all of the wonderful traditional foods I was taught to make for the holidays by my grandmothers. I also add some of the traditional fare that my husband had growing up while he was in Germany. It makes for a very eclectic array of food.

Vanilla - Chocolate Powdered Sugar Frosting
This was a very good recipe....would work awesome as a starter recipe with the ability to change the flavor according to substituting the vanilla extract. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is it was too sweet to use as a vanilla recipe for my taste so I did end up adding the cocoa and it came out really good.

Angie's Perfect Dinner Rolls
I did recipe as described but had one little issue with it as it was written. Making two inch balls and then letting them rise again and baking for actually 5 minutes more than recommended still left middle of rolls not done. I had to shut oven off( I was scared they would brown more) and leave in warm oven for another ten minutes for them to finish. Once they were done they were perfect. Everyone loved them but with the baking issues I had I can't give a five. Recipe is good enough to try again but next time making smaller balls, the end result with two inches were big enough that at one inch and then rising again they would be plenty big enough, and see if this helps.

Eggnog I
Very good starter recipe. The only changes I had to make was doubling the egg yolks( I agree with other reviewers without this it isn't eggy enough like eggnog should be) . I also added 1 tsp of nutmeg to the eggnog itself because it was alittle too plain for how we like our eggnog. I didn't add in the rum but kept it as an option on the side so the kids could enjoy it also. With the changes I made it came out thick and oh so yummy. Everyone at our Christmas loved it. I also made this the night before due to time constraints the next day and it kept perfectly.
