About this Cook
I am elderly (when I went to school there was no history class.) I love gardening --- am a Master Gardener I love cooking --- am the furthest thing from a Master Cook. I live for fishing and football. I thought about listing myself as an expert just for laughs. I'm glad I didn't. There are so many of those on this site I feel rather special, being in the minority.
My favorite things to cook
Tex/Mex, Asian or Southern. Couldn't eat any of these more than six times a day, seven days a week.
My cooking triumphs
Sometimes I actually cook well enough that The Boss (read "Wife") doesn't send out for pizza.
My cooking tragedies
Cannot cook a good meatloaf. Have wasted several herds of cattle trying.

My Best Clam Chowder
Nevertheless New England Clam Chowder has always been one of my favorite dishes. Love at first bite. This recipe yielded the best NECC I have ever eaten. And thanks to PIONEERGIRL, I made it myself! (Big grin.) I made it by the recipe with the exception, like others, I cooked bacon to use as a topping and cooked the onions in the bacon grease. Everything else by the recipe. And I do want to echo: The vinegar makes this chowder. Who woudda thunk it? Many, many thanks PIONEERGIRL.

Tender Flank Steak
This is a very simple marinade. It's tasty nonetheless. At this time there are only two other reviews. One cited too much soy sauce while the other cited too much Worcestershire sauce. It's simple enough to test. Just mix equal parts of soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, say 1Tsp each and a dash of garlic powder (not garlic salt). That's the flavor it will impart to the meat. But this marinade is for taste only. It will not tenderize as there is no real acidity in it. To tenderize you need to add wine, vinegar or both, or maybe citric acid such as lime or lemon. True it will change the taste a bit, but more complexity just might benefit this recipe. Thanks, Renee Manz.

Easy Chicken and Dumplings with Vegetables
My wife still works the weekends as a baker and cake decorator. So Mondays I cook to give her a rest day. Needless to say, put "easy" in a recipe name and you'll get my attention every time. This recipe is very easy and delicious. I made it exactly by the recipe except we had a bag of frozen dumplings so I used them. (Remember the part about "easy"? :) It rated a compliment from the Boss (read "wife"). And I don't get compliments on my cooking. So it's gotta be 5 stars. Many thanks, LUCYBARRON.
