Oh-So-Good Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2010
Easy + Yummy=5 stars! I just made this dish, minus the mushrooms, and it is delicious. My 4 kids, ages 6 through 14 also liked it, which says a lot! I think the addition of corn would be nice. I put my serving in a whole wheat tortilla for a chicken & rice burrito, but chips or just a spoon work for me!! I recommend heating the mixture in a pan or the microwave if your in a hurry.

Karyn's Cream of Crab Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2010
OMG! Sooo Yummy & Comforting & Easy! I wanted to try something new and this soup was not a let down, you will not be disappointed! 3 out of my 4 kids gave this a thumbs up. I replaced the half-n-half with 2% milk and it was still super rich & creamy. I also cut back on the Old Bay (1tbs) and added 3/4 cup baby shrimp. Great with slices of toasted, buttered, tuscan bread. I think the addition of sauted onions in the "melting butter" step would be nice. Thank you Karyn!!!

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2010
Needed a recipe w/o oil and this one was perfect. I layered carmel & pecans in the center - from another recipe on this site. They were chewy & gewy and gone in minutes. My family & relatives said they were the best!

Yummy, Easy, Fast, Versatile...what more do you need to earn 5 stars. My 4 kids love this! Don't forget to add your favorite seasonings to the meat. I use cream of chicken with great results.

Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2010
Should be called "Honey Ginger Chicken". My 4 kids liked the chicken, but not the extra sauce poured over the noodles/rice (made both). I found the sauce to be slightly to sweet and overpowering, my kids agreed. I could definitly taste the ginger (used fresh ginger). 4 stars = 3 stars for taste, and 1 star for ease.

Brownie Oat Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2010
3 STARS on taste, but extra star for EASE! My cookies tasted a little powdery, and were not the chocolaty rich flavor I was hoping for. Very EASY and inexpensive to make, so I recommend you try them and see if they work for you. REMEMBER they are low-fat, so if you are really craving a brownie then this recipe won't satisfy! I used an airbake pan sprayed with oil, and my cookies did NOT stick. I increased flour to 1 cup (used wheat) added extra egg white (additional 20 calories) instead of including the egg yolks (which would be additional 50 calories per yolk). The mixture is dry, but keep working it until it all mixes together. I think adding walnuts (great for your brain) and a little drizzle of low-fat, lite, or sugar free Hersey syrup would complement them well and keep them Low-Calorie/Fat.

Gingerbread Boys

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2010
Soft and chewy...couldn't eat eat them fast enough! I substituted molasses for corn syrup, and made one batch with orange zest and one batch without. Big difference in taste! I liked both, but feel omitting the orange zest leaves you with a more traditional gingerbread flavor. Rolling the dough out was a pain even with wax paper. I found it easier to flatten the dough with my hands after dividing into about 4 parts. My daughter loved helping decorate them. Thanks!!

Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2010
Delicious!! I made with plain feta (don't like Italian seasons), added a tad of nutmeg (advice from Rachael Ray) and omitted mushrooms. I used a 9.5" deep dish pan and it all fit perfectly. My family loved this! I will make again and again, Thanks!

Chicken Hurry

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2010
The sauce taste like something between barbecue and sweet & sour sauce. My mother thought it had an Italian flavor. I found the sauce a bit overpowering, but gave it 4 stars for being so easy. My 4 kids did not like this dish very much:o(

Slow Cooker Mongolian Beef

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2010
Yummy! I did not have hoisin sauce, so I used mixture suggested in reviews by CAROLC80. I used 2 lbs of round steak and cooked on low for 3 hrs. My kids don't like onions, so I liked the idea that they disappeared into the sauce if cooked for the full time with the meat...it worked! I cut the sugar to 1/4 cup and it was still a little too sweet. The soy sauce was a little over powering, but that might have been due to my homemade hoisin sauce. I also coated meat with flour and tossed into crock without browning. I will make again with less soy sauce and sugar. Thanks!!

Gourmet Pretzel Rods

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2010
Super Easy + Delicious = 5 STARS!! The caramel layer sets them apart from your normal dipped pretzels. I used both white chocolate and vanilla almond bark. I preferred the white chocolate version. I let the caramel dry before dipping in chocolate layer. Make sure to spray oil on your wax paper to prevent the caramel from sticking to it while hardening.

Sugar Cookie Glaze

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
I have been using "sugar cookie icing" recipe on this site, and liked it just fine, but decided to try this one out of curiosity. Taste the same...only difference I noticed is this glaze sets up faster and is a little thicker (not so runny like). I think I will continue to use this recipe due to it setting faster. Thanks!

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
I guess I like my potatoes with more flavor. I understand the need for a mellow comfort food at times, but these were boring and bland. I was very disappointed with all the great reviews and wanted to say they tasted great...Sorry!

Awesome and Easy Creamy Corn Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
All 4 of my picky kids liked this recipe, so it gets 4 stats. I thought it was okay. Taste like mushy cornbread to me. I added garlic powder and chopped onion, but it was still a little bland. I also used 1 3/4 cup frozen corn instead of the canned whole corn. The addition of meat, maybe cheese or other seasoning would improve this recipe, and easily make it into a main dish. Tested out for a Thanksgiving side, but I will not use it...too similar to stuffing or cornbread dressing. Think I will go with "Slow Cooker Creamed Corn" for a side dish...try it out if you like cream cheese!

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
I found my pie cooked very quickly, so beware and check often. This caused the top to over-brown and crack on top. It was messy to cut. I used a 9in deep dish crust and it was not enough to fill it properly...thankfully this was just a test run. The pie does not have the same texture as a regular pecan pie, it loses some of the shiny gelatin consistency, but the flavor is that of a regular pecan pie. I will stick to corn syrup recipes and keep this for back-up when I'm out of corn syrup. I give it 4 stars ONLY because it is a working emergency substitute for corn syrup.

Slow Cooker Creamed Corn

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
I wanted to save time and use less dishes, so I put all the ingredients into the crock pot instead of heating them separately on the stove. I cooked the corn on high for about 2 hrs before checking. At first I was worried, because the cream cheese was still in chunks. I gave it a good stir and let it cook for another 15 min, and the cheese blended in perfectly. I added 1 tsp salt & 1/2 tsp pepper & used a 1/3 less fat cream cheese. I LOVED the taste, but my 4 kids did not! It is very rich with all the butter & cream cheese. UPDATE: I made this again on the stove top and used 1/2 less cream cheese and added about 1/4 cup whipping cream - didn't measure just eye-balled amounts. Result was very smooth & creamy corn with less of a cream cheese flavor. My kids liked it better this time.

Golden Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
I have been making this dish for past 5 yrs from a Taste of Home magazine. Everyone loves it, especially with ham! The sauce has a wonderful rich flavor...I'm a fan of sour cream. The potatoes are not floating in sauce, so make extra if you like yours on the creamy side. I cut down on the butter and occasionally skip on making the topping with equally good results. TIP - Make sure your potatoes are completely thawed and bake for the full hour or your potatoes will not cook thoroughly.

Soft Christmas Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
WoW! My perfect sugar cookie is one that is thick and soft, and good with or without icing. I have searched this web-site for "my" perfect sugar cookie and I believe I found it. I originally tried "Best Rolled Sugar Cookies" and found they were crunchy even when rolled thick and under cooked. Then I tried "Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies" they were soft with a hint of cream cheese flavor and sometimes got sticky when rolling...closer to what I was looking for, but not your regular sugar cookie. I decided to try these today and used 1/2 cup butter & 1/2 cup margarine everything else the same. Cooled for 3 hrs, rolled out w/flour perfectly. Mine were done in 8 min w/no browning around edges. They stay very light colored, firm enough to decorate and handle, but soft and thick..yummm! I ate w/o icing and they were awesome, not to sweet like store bought sugar cookie dough, although they would be just as yummy with icing. Thanks Georgie! Will definitely make this holiday season and ice with "Sugar Cookie Icing"!

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
I have tried several Banana bread/muffin recipes on this site and ALWAYS find myself coming back to this one. I usually make 18 muffins bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Test w/toothpick to check if they done, should come out mostly clean. I use 1 cup wheat & 1 cup white fl and use 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick) and 1/2 cup of applesauce to make them healthier. But, they are wonderful as is! I add some pecans and mini semi-sweet choc chips (3/4 cup or less). They are small and spread through the mixture just right, so every bite has a little bit of chocolate. Thanks for this wonderful recipe!
