Grilled Salmon

It didn't excite me. Maybe if it were marinated overnight? The herb flavors just didn't shine through. Mediterranean Salmon on this site is my favorite and the maple is a very close second that my kids love, too.

Zesty Hominy and Cheese

Made as written. My mom made this when I was a kid, too. Good side dish. Had it with pork in verde mole and ended up mixing it together since it complemented so well.

Indonesian Satay

This was delicious!!! It is one of the rare dishes that gets five-stars from all members of the family: from the picky 6-year old to the picky 48-year old and the two epicurians in between. I marinated the chicken for 20 minutes and did not have tomato sauce but the marinated chicken alone was wonderful. The peanut sauce gave it the wow. I ate mine with a little cilantro on top. Fabulous and easy.

Excellent. Super moist. Made as directed (but only enough tomatoes for half a recipe in a 8X8 pan). Super moist. Frosted with cream cheese frosting.

Honey Baked Chicken

I thought this was good. My husband, who is not a big chicken fan and rarely comments on meals besides BBQ steak, instantly said it was "awesome" and commented twice on it. So, I figured 5 stars to cover the family response. Both kids like it a lot, too. I made it as directed but poured the sauce off and thickened it with cornstarch at the end of the baking and then poured it back over the chicken.

Barbeque Halibut Steaks

This was delicious! I did marinate it for about 2.5 hr - not sure if that made and difference or not - and basted while on the BBQ. Best halibut I have made.

Three stars for flavor and 4 stars for practicality. Made this so we could eat them while travelling on a long trip and not have to stop as there are not may option in the first three hours of our route. I just didn't care for that funny flavor of refrigerator dough. Will try again with homemade dough.

WWII Oatmeal Molasses Cookies

Very good. If you like molasses, of course. If you don't, then this recipe is not for you as the strong molasses flavor comes through. I made these as bars for time saving which was good. I also did an experiment: I added coconut, sunflower seeds, and walnuts to 1/2 the recipe. I really liked the version with the additions.

Corned Beef and Cabbage I

I didn't actually make this but nobody else who reviewed it seems to have either. This is the most recipe rewriting I have seen in any review. I read 12 reviews and finally gave up as they all were telling about how they make theirs, not about this recipe. Very disappointing. I am heading back to the pressure cooker instructions for this evening's meal. :-(

Chef John's Macaroni and Cheese

This was good but not quite the to-die-for that I was hoping for. It is more on the creamy side than the cheesy side (even though I did use sharp cheddar). I will try a different recipe next time. I am not after a boxed-style mac and cheese, just something a little more cheesy. I followed the recipe as written.

Sesame Crusted Mahi Mahi with Soy Shiso Ginger Butter Sauce

Wow. Delicious! Even my picky 5 yr old asked for thirds but there was no more. I couldn't bring myself to use all the butter so used about 1/3 c. Did not have shiso. Mahi is such a nice, firm fish so I finished it on the grill instead of the oven. Superb. Oh, one more thing...it took me more like 30 min prep- the sauce just takes a some time to complete. It could be done ahead- the actual cook time is quick. Thank you for this recipe!

Easy Olive Martini Chicken

This was good as written but not fabulous. I made it exactly as written. I had some left over which I sliced thinly and blended with the sauce...now THAT is 5 star flavor that just didn't pop until it was sliced and the sauce infused the meat. And, by the way, this made fantastic chicken for chicken salad. I will make again with this small modification.

Roasted Swiss Chard with Feta

I personally give this 5 stars but the rest of my family was not impressed so I am giving it 4. My husband and 7 year old kindly finished their servings to please me, my 5 year old (not much of a cooked vegetable eater) tasted it but did not want to eat it. I ate 3/4 of the pan myself and loved it. In defense of the recipe, I over salted it quite a bit. I will try this again with very little salt and leave the shaker for individuals to use. I did add parmesan with the feta and then pine nuts in the last 5 minutes. My 7 year old liked it with a little lemon juice (I did not).
