About this Cook
I really don't like to cook, but every once in a while I'll get an urge to do something new. I usually do really good the first time I cook something, but it tends to go downhill if I try it again. Coming from a relatively small immediate family, I've been used to cooking for no more than 4. And my family at home now is 3 (guardians of a grandchild), but my husband, who is really tall, eats enough for 3 just himself. So I've had fun trying to cook enough for him.
My favorite things to cook
Hmmm, can't think of anything. Actually I do like cooking tortillas from scratch and yeast rolls (the kind you get to "punch" a couple of times). And I do prefer to cook from scratch, or at least close to it, instead of getting it out of a box. My hubby appreciates that too.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The large extended family reunion, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Usually about 50 people show up, bringing a dish of their own, and it's just a lot of good eating and catching up with cousins.
My cooking triumphs
I apparently do well with my yeast rolls, if I make 3 dozen and they are always gone no longer than 24 hours later.
My cooking tragedies
I remember once in college when I had forgotten I was cooking biscuits and they turned out pretty much well-done. Done enough that they truly could have been a wall art of pure carbon!

Almond and Parmesan Crusted Tilapia
My husband, a true meat and potatoes man, does not care too much for fish. But he loved this dish so much he ate not only his usual portion but then devoured the rest (I had made extra for lunch the next day). So for me to find a fish recipe he liked that much is short of amazing!

Pork Steaks
My husband loves his pork steaks breaded and fried, but I'm not supposed to, especially the bread part. He hates onions, I love onions. This was a great compromise and he absolutely loved these, not even commenting on the onions (for the first time)!
