Jenn's Out Of This World Spaghetti and Meatballs

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2010
You need to broil the meatballs for 15 minutes before putting them in the sauce. This will brown the meat and the sauce won't get greasy. Roll them lightly in your hands (do not overwork or they will be tough), put them in a baking pan and then broil them in your oven for 15 minutes. Then you can take a knife and knock off or scrape off any fat that is visible. Then put them in the sauce and simmer for 2 hours until done. Also, I replace oregano with basil, omit the bay leaf, omit the onion, halve the sugar, and put in about 2 T of garlic powder as well as 1/2 tsp of baking soda which kills some of the acidity of the tomatoes, sweetening them.

Microwave Popcorn

Reviewed: May 30, 2010
After only 3 minutes (and still popping) standing upright according to other folks' advice, and it BURNED. Whole house smells awful now. Not thrilled.

Apple Squares

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2010
These are really good. A definite keeper. I doubled the recipe and put it in a 9x13 pan. I didn't have any nuts, so I made it without them. And I used 2 Gala apples, a little over 1 C. Next time, I'll put in another apple. If you double it, don't double the sugar/cinnamon topping, though... it does wind up being too much (I wish I'd have read the reviews & comments before I made it!). It's very sweet, very moist, and very delicious. My daughter absolutely loved it and was already suggesting when I should make it again as she ate it! A DEFINITE KEEPER!!

Easy Decadent Truffles

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
These are more like fudge, and not really a truffle. A truffle (to me at least) should have an outer shell and an inside filling... these are just basically fudgy balls. But if you like fudge and that's what you're looking to make, then you'll like these.

Cuban Black Beans II

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
My husband liked them, but my daughter and I did not. To me they're rather bland, and just tasted like a bland, meatless chili. I don't really know what the point of the pimentos is, as you can't taste them at all. And one teaspoon of sugar was not enough, as the tomato paste left them pretty sour.

Chris' Bay Area Burger

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2012
Very flavorful and delicious with the garlic and basil, and the olive oil kept the burgers very moist... HOWEVER, the oil made the grill flame up big time, and also the burgers were entirely too salty and greasy. I will make these again but next time, I'll cut the salt down to 1/2 tsp and the olive oil down to 1 T.

White Chip Orange Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2012
Perfect! I made this exactly as-is and these cookies turned out beautifully at 10 minutes in my oven. I will definitely be making these again, except doubling the recipe!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2013
Made these this morning, and we really liked them. They are thick and fluffy but not dry at all. And the batter is super thick, as well. I used only 1/2 tsp of vanilla as I don't like it to be overpowering in pancakes. I also used unsalted butter in the recipe and to grease the griddle, and I didn't find them to be too salty at all as other reviews have stated. I would have given 5-stars, however, the recipe only made 8 pancakes, and that was using every bit of the batter scraped from the bottom of the bowl.
