This is an Eastern European recipe and in Romania, these are called sarmales (sounds like tamales) and they are a traditional dish for around the holidays. I uses the juice from a couple of cans of diced tomatoes instead of sauce as it really shouldn't be a saucy meal. I had to laugh at the woman who put spaghetti sauce on it-yuck. Overall it was okay-will tide me over until I get to the family's house for Christmastime. Definitely needs to have some garlic, paprika, and some basil.
Also, the way it's usually done is with pickled cabbage leaves in a jar-they are really pliable and easy to use.
