I got married at 18...had 3 little baby boys by age 24, raised my family with old fashioned values that came from my grandparents. I'm not a fancy cook (although I want to change my cooking style) but I tried my best to feed my family at least a 3-4 course meals each day while they were growing up. I believe 3 meals a day are important. I find it very gratifying at the end of a meal to hear my family say..."Mmmm, that was good Mom, or Honey"....that makes it all worth the time and trouble. I was a stay @ home mom which I was very happy to be. Those days are long gone, but the memories will remain forever!! I want to learn to cook healthy/gourmet meals and desserts, and add it to my Hobby list instead of it just being a daily chore. Thats pretty much it!
My favorite things to cook
Since I'm from NM...I like cooking traditional, ethnic NM dishes. Hot green or red chili...outside of that, i want to change up what i have been cooking for almost 30 yrs...getting a little bored in the kitchen, and make healthy dishes using more chicken and fish. I love grilled steak, big beautiful pot roasts with mashed potatoes and gravy, enchiladas of every kind. I am looking for new ideas...
My favorite family cooking traditions
red and green chili sauces with pork
enchiladas (red or green, beef or chicken)
homemade pinto beans
My cooking triumphs
Making holiday meals from beginning to end...without help, and it all coming out well!!
My cooking tragedies
letting dough rise too long (dinner rolls for thanksgiving) and having to throw it all away...not having any dinner rolls with our meal..I hate when that happens!!
