Lamb Chops with Balsamic Reduction

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2012
I made this for the first time last Christmas and it was the first time I had cooked lamb. Both my husband and I thought it was amazing! Since then I have tried a few different lamb recipes, so as to not make the same thing all the time...nothing compared. This is my absolute go to recipe for lamb, for impressing someone and for a special occasion. Just bought 6 beautiful thick chops and will be making this for Christmas dinner for the two of us. If you think it tastes too vinegary then you are probably just using a cheap balsamic - use the good stuff for this one!

Traditional French Canadian Tourtiere

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2012
I have not actually tried this specific recipe. Tourtiere is not hard to make and the seasonings are really personal preference, or family preference. As I looked through the recipes for this French Canadian tradition I LOLed and thought this was the most traditional because it was a recipe to make 8 at one time!! I don't know a French Canadian family that does not make at least this many to have on hand for the holidays! Love it :)

Spanish Cod

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2012
Ok, I was really skeptical because I am not a fan of fish done with tomatoes or even green olives, but the husband likes both and I needed a new way to cook fish. WOW!!! I can't believe how much we ate it was SO GOOD! The only changes I made were to add mushrooms (I pretty much put mushrooms in everything) and I did add shrimp and I used canned tomatoes as I didn't have any cherry tomatoes, otherwise made it as written and it's fantastic! We ate it over pearl couscous and while I thought I made enough for at least 2 full dinners for the 2 of us, there is hardly enough left for one lunch. FANTASTIC blend of flavors and much milder than I would have thought for all the green olives and pickled asparagus I put in.

Peanut Butter Vegetable Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
We loved this soup! I only gave it 4 stars because as written it was a little bland. By bland I do not mean not spicy - it just needed something a little more. I added some fish sauce, lime juice and a little green curry paste - not enough to make it hot at all. I really wished I had some coconut milk when I made it as I think that would also be a great addition. The peanut butter gave the whole thing a really delicate taste. As other reviewers, I also just added veggies according to what I had on hand. YUMMY and I made a HUGE pot, there is only 2 of us, so I have 2 big containers in the freezer!

Moroccan Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2011
This is SO good!! Each year for Christmas Eve I make each family member whatever they want for dinner - it's made for some interesting combinations! My husband is French Canadian and ALWAYS asks for Tourtierre, but this year, after having tasted this, this is what he wants! I changed it a little because that's what I do, but they were minor changes - so so so good and so different!

Curried Mustard Greens with Kidney Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2011
I had never eaten mustard greens before but bought some this weekend at the farmer's market. Found this recipe and it sounded so completely different that I had to try it! YUM!! I think I overdid the red pepper a bit, but that was my fault. Next time I will use coconut milk, cause that's the way I roll, I used olive oil instead of ghee just for ease factor, but as is is delish! Thanks!

Real Poutine

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2011
This is GREAT poutine and pretty much the real thing, having spent lots of time in Quebec. We are in Utah now and have to make what we sarcastically refer to as Deluxe American Poutine, but it is a little healthier and good cheese curds are really hard to find here. We toss our cut up potatos in a little olive oil and bake. I saute sweet onions, muchrooms, sliced deli roast beef and put that on along with the cheese curds if we can find them, or fresh mozz pearls if not. In Montreal you can get poutine with Montreal smoked meat that is amazing, so we tried to replicate that, kind of....considering we can't get Montreal smoked meat...

Cucumber Soup I

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
This is such a different flavor! I loved it, but only gave it 4 stars as my husband was not so sure about it. He kept eating it, for sure, but was not as blown away as I was. I am not a fan of cucumbers but had some I needed to use up. I make my own chicken broth and used it, so that added a lot of flavor. I will definitely make this again, probably just a smaller batch as this made quite a bit.

Chicken Tikka Masala

I always try to make enough for dinner so that my husband and I can have lunch to take the next day. Didn't work here! We ate it all! So so so yummy - didn't change a thing.

Awesome Spicy Beef Kabobs OR Haitian Voodoo Sticks

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
Even after reading all the reviews, I did not expect these to be so spicy! I let them marinade for just a couple of hours and they had such a great bite! I made tzatziki sauce to go with them, which was awesome. Really can't wait to make them again!!

Fresh Fig Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
loved this for using up my fresh figs. Did not have enough for the filling so made up the difference with blueberries. It was wonderful! It really needs some type of topping, though, or I thought it was a little dry. My favorite was to eat it in a bowl with a little milk or better yet half and half!

Avocado Feta Salsa

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
I agree with using cilantro instead of parsley and oregano for sure! I used cojita cheese instead of the feta YUM! or even just Mexican queso, which also has much the same texture as feta.

Butterball Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2011
Both my grandmothers were German/Russian and this was a family staple after Thanksgiving and Christmas as we made it with turkey broth and homemade egg noodles sliced VERY thin along with the dumplings. This is a pretty good version, but would never taste like Grandma's ;)
