I love trying to cook new things. I've slowed down last ten years as I've become ill. But try to cook up a great old fashion dinner every week in winter. Winter is my favorite time of year to cook. Soup stews and casseroles are perfect on cold snowy day. Love baking especially breads and rolls. I am married to great guy who never turns down anything I've made. Two older teenagers. Trying to teach daughter how to take recipes and give them personal touches. My son took culinary arts class in high school he likes to experiment. I like doing crafts and needlepoint as well as sewing and quilting. I'm also a huge fan of Dean Koontz books. I read so much so fast I have to force a break as I tend to mix up the stories.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking a old fashion hearty winters meal. Meat, potatoes, veggies, rolls, and hot dessert. Also enjoy quick throw togethers like sweet n sour chicken over rice (use premade meatballs) as well. Been trying new stuff I see if they look good. Italian basic food is common for me. I try to find ways to simplify recipes. I don't care for one pot meals but some are good. Have few Asian foods I enjoy as well as Mexican.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holidays would be top stories. My moms pumpkin pie HAS to have a white line in middle or its not right. Has to do with folding in the egg into pumpkin mix. Christmas we don't do Turkey but a buffet used to be seafood until economy killed us. Now we just do finger foods. Memorial day is our big BBQ day besides birthdays in summer.
My cooking triumphs
Nothing striking stands out at this time
My cooking tragedies
Was helping niece make cookies. Stepped out for bathroom break for a min. As she putting ingredients in bowl. She put in 2c salt (for sugar) and 3tbsp sugar (for salt) and flour with chocolate chips an egg little buttermilk and you can imagine what they tasted like. My other oops was cooking chicken high heat fast. Looked beautiful. Was for a first date years ago. He marvelled over how great the food looked until he bit into bloody raw chicken-- the center didn't cook. I was only looking at not burning outside. Last was cooking ribs in foil over campfire. Was turning often all day slow cook at dinner went to open foil and ribs were charred so bad you couldn't tell bone from meat. We drove into town for fast food so much for camping and cooking over open flames.
