About this Cook
From a tiny little town in Michigan, just trying to get by in a new place. Cooking has always been something I was delicate with, and never enjoyed quite so much until recently. My better half always has me looking for new ways to make him say "Mmm" and allrecipes has really helped me to step away from what I'm comfortable with and try new things in the kitchen.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make stews! There's just something about a half-dozen different flavors coming together to make something unique...
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom's pistachio dessert that she always makes for the holidays!
My cooking triumphs
The very first time I baked a pie totally from scratch. It was a coconut cream pie, and I had made it for my fiance's birthday. His reaction after the first bite couldn't have been better!
My cooking tragedies
The worst thing that ever happened in the kitchen was when I very young, and I was cooking bacon, and the paper towel I had been laying the cooked bacon on had caught fire from the stove. If it hadn't been for my sister's quick thinking I may have caught the whole house on fire! We never told our mother. o_o

St. Patrick's Chocolate & Mint Cheesecake Bars
Since this was a rather annoying issue for me, I feel I ought to point this out now since no one else has. I had a difficult time trying to cut decent squares after the chips had re-hardened in the fridge. Maybe it was that I let it cool overnight, or maybe not, but next time I will cut them before placing in the fridge and see if it works better. If not, maybe adding them after chilling instead. This small problem aside, I was rather impressed at how well my first foray into cheesecake-making turned out. Very delicious.

Brazilian Fish Stew
I LOVED this recipe!! The only real changes I made was that I used one green and one red pepper instead of the 4. Past that, I followed it exactly, and boy was I surprised! Served over rice, one bowl was deliciously filling. And it's so simple to add or remove things based on your own tastes. Can't wait to make this again!

Peanut Butter Noodles
First time I made this, I did NOT enjoy it. Hubby had two plate fulls, but I feel unless you REALLY enjoy ginger that the suggested amount is just overpowering. It was also my first time using fresh ginger in any meal, so maybe my palate was just sensitive to it. I think with half a tablespoon of ginger, though, it would be a great dish.
