Dinner is always interesting in my house. I am a Haitian-American married to a German Chinese. On any given night, we might prepare something from any one of these countries, but we also love Indian and Mediterranean food.
My favorite things to cook
home-made yogurt because my daughter won't eat anything else, spicy curries, banana nut bread, I love the way it makes the house smell, and my favorite breakfast- a perfectly boiled 6 minute egg.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Jan 1, is Haitian Independence Day. Most Haitians whether in Haiti, America, Canada or Europe, make a very special soup, called Soupe Joumou. We eat this delicous, spicy, hearty soup with crusty baguette and butter, and a strong cup of Haitian coffee with condensed milk.
My cooking triumphs
Learning to make a perfect Weiner Schnitzel and Spaetzle for my half German husband.
My cooking tragedies
Homemade baby food. My daughter did not like pureered food, she went from breast milk to table food with the exception of rice cereal, oatmeal and mashed sweet potatoes.
