Finally A Resolution I Can Keep......?

I usually start thinking of what my New Years Resolution is going to be around this time every year!  With all of my whirlwind baking... I have noticed that my cabinets are getting bare... Hmm ... with those bare cupboards you can see exactly how much I have neglected to clean those babies! With that in mind.. I was on a mission to try to use up most of what is left in those cabinets of mine, so as not to have a whole lot of stuff to move when I clean them.
tyle="background-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Along with this quest, I found some pretty cool ways to use items that I bet most of Y'all have in the back of one of your cabinets -  Jellied Cranberry Sauce, Canned Sweet Potatoes, and a gazillion packets of hot cocoa.
tyle="background-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Cranberry Squares, from the Charleston Cake Lady Cookbook (yes I still use my cookbooks, with all the technology, it seems I still need my food covered favorites)
tyle="background-color:rgb(255,255,255)">Sweet potatoe biscuits, from my trusty Betty Crocker, and
tyle="background-color:rgb(255,255,255)">a Chocolate pudding recipe that I created one day when needing to make a chocolate surprise for Jim! you can find that in my blog post...What We Do When We Don't...

My New Years resolution is to keep my kitchen cabinets clean inside and out!

In order to keep that resolution,  1.  I am going to try to start making weekly menus
                                                          2.  Only purchase the items needed for that week.
                                                          3.  Pick one day a week to unload the cabinets and                                                                        wipe them down and clean the facings.
                                                          4.  Buy some Cereal, snack and dry good containers.

Welp... that is doable right?  What is your new Years Resolution?

Ugh... sorry for the annoying font... I couldn't figure out how to delete it!

Hi, I put all my pastas, rice and cereal in clear Rubbermaid containers, that way I can see what's inside. You can keep extra cereal in the freezer also. God luck on you quest to keep up with your cupboards.

lol! I curious you can keep resolution 3! the daughters come in ( they love to cook too,) and clean them out and rearrange things so I always wind up with double same stuff. they found some cake mix from 1991 one year. I was gonna try and sell it on ebay or use it for cat litter, but the cooking-challenged wife tossed it. have a happy holiday!

Good luck, Terry! You can do it, I know you can! Last year I resolved to spend more time in my kitchen as the past year I had not been there much. I think I succeeded in keeping that resolution. Maybe I should jump on your bandwagon, because I have all sorts of things in my cupboard that should be used up but instead I just keep buying more stuff! Mine is all organized, though, I just don't have any empty spots - I like a well-stocked pantry. :)

The only advantage to being space challenged is the fact I am forced to be prudent in my shopping. I think I would get overwhelmed be the prospect of emptying all the cabinets on a weekly basis. I would be more apt to keep the resolution if I just planned to do one each week. I hope you have more self discipline than I do.

Gary , haha ! The last time I cleaned out my cabinets, I found 4 cans of sauerkraut... two of them out of date! Have you seen the shelf life on those puppies? What the....? No idea when they came to be! Gotta get a handle on those kitchen cupboards!

MA, I'm kinda excited about this years resolution... I want to try new recipes and have been pantry cooking for way too long! Wanna spice up the kitchen and give Jim some new grub to taste! Variety is the spice of life... right!

BSM,my kitchen is too space challenged... I tend to tuck products into far corners of the netherlands of my kitchen cabinets... it is sometimes years before I discover somethings! Thank god for shelf life! This resolution is long over due! I can do this!!!

Hello, Terry! I admire your New Year's Resolutions. I on the other hand, know I am not good at keeping my promise to myself with resolutions. So, I shoot for a minimal resolution like maybe ironing the wrinkled cotton shirts after I get them out of the dryer. Right now, I bet I have at least 4 shirts or more to iron.

Hi lela! I usually make them and break them... but this one will be staring me in the face every day! I spend so much time in the kitchen! Jim does all the ironing in the house... I love doing laundry but hate the ironing!

About Me
I was a working mother of 2 boys! I didn't have much time for cooking... now that the boys are grown and on their own... I have been enjoying learning and appreciating the art of cooking. I started with a day of baking with my mother in law and I was hooked! Not to mention my new stepkids... what was two... now is four! Our family is growing we now have a grandson, Damien, and one on the way! My grandson loves his visits with Gramma and Grampa...We spend quality time in the kitchen snd chronical our visits here on AR!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! It is my therapy...I love to buy and read all types of recipe books ( call me old fashion ) but it's fun to pick out 1 recipe in a new book and try it the day I get the book!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I have great times cooking meals together! When the kids come to visit we let them request their menu of choice. Funny twist... my two boys request Jim's culinary feasts... Jim's two request Stepmom's dinner delights! Works out fine at the end of the day!
My cooking triumphs
Check out my pics, the wedding cake? It was my 1st attempt at a wedding cake... can you believe it... I still can't!
My cooking tragedies
so many... hard to pick just one! but isn't that the joy of cooking?
