One Happy Camper... at least!

It's that time of year... Oh yeah... Our annual fall camping trip!  Now this has always been a source of joy for us.. or me in particular!  I love the crisp cool air... the rustling of the leaves... and the FISHING... I bet most of you were thinking that next line was gonna involve a campfire and S'mores... Right?

When I started this blog , I fully intended it to spotlight our camping menu and amazing outdoor cuisine... However it did take a nasty turn in a humorous direction... I did state that is my pure pleasure of fall camping... Let me tell you of a story not too long ago of one of the " not so favorite trips to the great outdoors for My love, Jim!"

We plan our trips well in advanced so that we secure our favorite campsite... you know the one that is closest to the water , the bath house and with the least hills!  Well we also camp close to home... it is maybe a good 45 min from our front door on Poet place to our front door at Dreher Island state Park!  I know most don't think that's a vacation... but trust me , after Five days camping , nothing is more welcoming than a 45 minute drive to a hot shower and a warm bed!

On this particular trip that I speak of... We planned with precision... made our check list... staged our gear ... packed our gear... then checked that list again! Car packed and we are on our way!  We arrive at our destination and as always sit on the empty campsite and just Marvel at our temporary home for the next five days!

Next order of business... Time to set up camp!

As Jim unloads most of the utility tools Rake , Ax, Broom, you know the ones that make room for the next important component of camping... The Tent!    Where is the Tent?

Here is how that conversation went:

Me: Jim where is the tent?

Jim:  Was it on the checklist?

Me: Probably not... kinda thought that was a given!

Jim:  I'll be back in an hour and a half! ( another plus for camping close to home)

So... I start setting up and organizing... by that I mean the Hammock gets place in the most optimal Terry spot and then is occupied by said Terry till the Tent makes it's appearance!

Jim arrives.. Yeah Tent!!!!  Our temporary household is finally in place... and bed is pumped up and all necessary items are stored and accessible for an awesome camping adventure...  Seriously... really.. Rain???

Me:  Jim.... Where's the canopy for the tent?

Jim:  "I'll be back in an Hour and a Half"

That is absolutely the last time we ever forgot the tent... Now it is always at the top of the Checklist!

What a great read and chuckle with my morning coffee. Yes it's good to camp close to home. Just wondering, do you still have that spaceship thing you cook on?

Yep Bd we do! We mainly use it to cook hotdogs when we take Damien to the park! Love that thing!

LOL! We started out as tent campers, then moved to a pop-up, and now we have a regular trailer camper with everything from a microwave to a shower. I love camping. We never forgot our tent - but one year we arrived at the campsite (500 miles from home) and realized we did not have the "bathroom bag". The bag with contacts, contact solution, etc., etc. for hubby. Hubby insisted he needed those spare contacts so we called our neighbor, told him where to find the bag in our house, and asked him to ship it to the campground address overnight. You can bet every trip we make begins with "Did you get the bathroom bag?" :)

Hahahaha MA !!! Precisely why we camp close to home! Can imagine how much it would cost to overnight a tent?

About Me
I was a working mother of 2 boys! I didn't have much time for cooking... now that the boys are grown and on their own... I have been enjoying learning and appreciating the art of cooking. I started with a day of baking with my mother in law and I was hooked! Not to mention my new stepkids... what was two... now is four! Our family is growing we now have a grandson, Damien, and one on the way! My grandson loves his visits with Gramma and Grampa...We spend quality time in the kitchen snd chronical our visits here on AR!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! It is my therapy...I love to buy and read all types of recipe books ( call me old fashion ) but it's fun to pick out 1 recipe in a new book and try it the day I get the book!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I have great times cooking meals together! When the kids come to visit we let them request their menu of choice. Funny twist... my two boys request Jim's culinary feasts... Jim's two request Stepmom's dinner delights! Works out fine at the end of the day!
My cooking triumphs
Check out my pics, the wedding cake? It was my 1st attempt at a wedding cake... can you believe it... I still can't!
My cooking tragedies
so many... hard to pick just one! but isn't that the joy of cooking?
