For my one-hundreth blog... I decided to dedicate this blog to my true loves! Of course there's Jim,  then there's Daimien, at a close third... there is my Angels... Audrie and AJ, but lastly my true love of baking!

Today it was just us girls... me and Audrie!  What to do.... what to do?...

After making breakfast... we painted our nails... gotta love the color Audrie picked!  Next on the list , after the nails dried, was kitchen time!

Jim just celebrated his 55th birthday... and for some reason, his wife, (oh yeah ... that would be me...) did'nt make him a birthday cake!  Well I say better late than never, plus it will be a big surprise!

When I married this awesome man... I quickly learned that I really needed to learn how to bake.  As my mother in law was an amazing baker.  So as to earn brownie points with MIL and win the love of my life's heart... I asked her to teach me to bake!

It was Jim's birthday that month and she was to teach me how to make his favorite cake... coconut cake, you know the kind with the white mountain frosting....  We spent the whole day in the kitchen and I learned so much about baking!  I was hooked!

So on Jim's birthday I was to surprise him with my baked creation.... It was so sad.... The layers were sliding off of each other... the layers were warped and uneven.. I called my MIL and she said we can fix this!   A couple of wooden skewers, a little more coconut and voila!  Happy Birthday Jim!

So.... Audrie and I made Jim a belated birthday cake.... !  We had an amazing day in the kitchen and she found her favorite Icing in the world!  No wooden skewers needed for this cake!

Happy birthday my love!!!!!!

What a fun day! I love that color but I don't think I would have the nerve to wear it myself. I'm such an old fart that way. Happy Birthday, Jim! My father loved coconut cake and I haven't made one in years.

About Me
I was a working mother of 2 boys! I didn't have much time for cooking... now that the boys are grown and on their own... I have been enjoying learning and appreciating the art of cooking. I started with a day of baking with my mother in law and I was hooked! Not to mention my new stepkids... what was two... now is four! Our family is growing we now have a grandson, Damien, and one on the way! My grandson loves his visits with Gramma and Grampa...We spend quality time in the kitchen snd chronical our visits here on AR!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! It is my therapy...I love to buy and read all types of recipe books ( call me old fashion ) but it's fun to pick out 1 recipe in a new book and try it the day I get the book!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I have great times cooking meals together! When the kids come to visit we let them request their menu of choice. Funny twist... my two boys request Jim's culinary feasts... Jim's two request Stepmom's dinner delights! Works out fine at the end of the day!
My cooking triumphs
Check out my pics, the wedding cake? It was my 1st attempt at a wedding cake... can you believe it... I still can't!
My cooking tragedies
so many... hard to pick just one! but isn't that the joy of cooking?
