Will You Be My Valentine... Again?

Well, It’s another Valentines Day! Jim and I are not at the point where either of us felt like gussy -ing up and going out! Jim still needs the cane for long distance ambulation and sitting in one spot for long periods of time is just plain uncomfy! ( we are now 7 weeks out from his total knee )!

Our plans for this most of romantic holidays… other than our Anniversary… is a romantic spin on one of my favorite childhood comfort food! Grilled hamburger steak, served over French fries, topped with cheddar cheese and mushroom gravy… I’ve mentioned this in a past blog… Issaqueena Falls Restaurant in my home town! It’s no longer around, but lives forever in my memory! http://allrecipes.com/cook/12914038/blogentry.aspx?postid=246634<

Here is how I romantically one upped this awesome dinner…..

I still kept the hamburger steaks on the grill… Jim was so excited to be in the yard grilling’ … but I made a onion, mushroom, red wine sauce to top it with! Instead of the French fries… I made a vege a gratin with potatoes, cauliflower, onions and used a béchamel and three Cheeses, a necessary side salad and a bottle of Merlot!

Did you notice how we dressed up for the occaision...?

Happy Valentines Day!
Our Motto!

DH and I never went out for Valentine's Day after a disappointment when we were first married. We made it an evening for "us" the kids ate early and were banished to their rooms. We'd cook together, share a bottle of wine and just enjoy each other's company. I think we had more really romantic meals than many of my friends who felt compelled to dine out. From the happy faces, I'd say your evening was a huge success.

Loved your blog! I think dining out on major holidays is a complete waste of time and money---besides the fact that the food is never the same when they prepare it in "bulk." I loved your food!

We live so near Orlando and so many jet setters around here that going out on Valentine's requires a couple weeks ahead reservation...and I never enjoy loud restaurants...to me a nice quiet dinner at home with the candles like you did is so tender and sweet and the way it should be celebrated. My DH and I grilled a meatloaf and sat out by our fire pit and watched the sun set and listened to crickets chirping.

Oh Sherrie That sounds just so wonderful! Fire pit, sunset, crickets and I gotta try grilled meatloaf!

About Me
I was a working mother of 2 boys! I didn't have much time for cooking... now that the boys are grown and on their own... I have been enjoying learning and appreciating the art of cooking. I started with a day of baking with my mother in law and I was hooked! Not to mention my new stepkids... what was two... now is four! Our family is growing we now have a grandson, Damien, and one on the way! My grandson loves his visits with Gramma and Grampa...We spend quality time in the kitchen snd chronical our visits here on AR!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! It is my therapy...I love to buy and read all types of recipe books ( call me old fashion ) but it's fun to pick out 1 recipe in a new book and try it the day I get the book!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I have great times cooking meals together! When the kids come to visit we let them request their menu of choice. Funny twist... my two boys request Jim's culinary feasts... Jim's two request Stepmom's dinner delights! Works out fine at the end of the day!
My cooking triumphs
Check out my pics, the wedding cake? It was my 1st attempt at a wedding cake... can you believe it... I still can't!
My cooking tragedies
so many... hard to pick just one! but isn't that the joy of cooking?
