Who's In Charge Of The Desserts This Year?... I Guess That Would Be Me!

We have our family christmas, the weekend before Christmas... so that individual Families can be together, on Christmas Eve and Christmas day!

This happy event happens at my sister Janets' house... because it is the biggest... One of the reasons Jim and I downsized!  LOL... hope she's not reading the old blog today... Well anyhoo...

In years past it is interesting how things have changed with age.  That includes all of our culinary interest and ambitions.

Not too many years ago... when I would ask my sisters ( there's four of us total, with me being the baby) what can I bring to the shindig... their response was, almost always, plate's napkins, sodas and chips! I was not offended by this at all... for back then my interests were more toward fast food and frozen banquet chicken!

This year without hesistation when the question was just barely out of my mouth... came the response... desserts ( Did anyone else notice the "s" on the end of that D word?)

 I accept the challenge!

For the past few weeks, as to not overwhelm myself or tempt the hubby too much, I have been baking ... letting Jim and the neighbors feast on half and freezing the other half!  With the freezer getting fuller, this is my Dessert spread for the Family.....

Cream cheese pound cake
Carrot cake
Chocolate pound cake
Chocolate cream pie
Coconut cream pie
Pumpkin pie ( actually Jim makes a better pumpkin pie than I do... so he's got this one!
Cake balls dipped in white candy
Danish shortbread cookies
Chocolate brownies

There that should just about do it... So do you think I added enough chocolate desserts?

I love Christmas... Here's wishing you all a great holiday!  ( I know it's still nov. but I really do love Christmas!!!! )

Sounds absolutely yummy! What an array--you will def need to wear stretch pants for the feast! It's going to be awesome, enjoy. : )

No, you did not add enough chocolate desserts! I do not see truffles or flourless chocolate cake. C'mon, get serious about the chocolate, Terry. :D

BSM... I like... you can...and do, gain weight just by reading menu's... That's my story and I'm sticking to it! I know my family will enjoy! Really it's a tribute to my Mama... this is all of her fav's...( we lost her in June of 2010!) I miss her so much! She is quite an inspiration!

Terry-love all the chocolate. I am so impressed with all your baking and decorating already. Your husband makes pie! If my husband made pie it would be half empty before anyone else got to it. Well, just save some chocolate pie for me--or if you find it missing--what can I say.

Lela... don't be so easily impressed... I love this time of year! I start dreaming of my plans in April... I know it's just a sickness... there has got to be some group therapy for people like me!

Terry - while I'm not the baby (I'm #2 in a line-up of 4, though one is a boy) we could be twins! The frozen banquet chicken was sooo Me way back when I was younger! And, baking - yup all my friends even tell me to bring the dessert and you can guarantee there will be some chocolate! I like your choices. No, I don't like your choices---I love your choices! ;)

Oooo, Terry you've inspired me. It all sounds so yummy! I was looking for an event to make a new Honey Cheesecake recipe so that hubby and I would not be tempted to eat it all on our own and I think that the family Christmas gathering would be perfect...

Thisis a hoot, I actually miss the frozen banquet chicken. Can't find the actual fried chicken pieces in the store anymore, just the tenders and the patties, Not the same. Ds look fab, I am not a sweets girl and even I am drooling.

CG, I used to miss all the banquet meals especially the chicken! But recently I have been on this copykat kick... I found a copy cat recipe for KFC fried chicken... now it's all I crave! Stevie crazy cook turned me on to that site. Now I'm copying everything from white castle burgers to cinabon rolls!

Terry, if you'll bake it, I'll make the drive!

Terry, I love copycats, too. Today I found a recipe on Chowhound for my all-time fav soup, Campbell's Fiesta Chili Beef. I cried when they stopped making it a few yrs back. Really. Of course, I'm old school and loved it when it was just plain old Chili Beef. Now I can haz it again!

About Me
I was a working mother of 2 boys! I didn't have much time for cooking... now that the boys are grown and on their own... I have been enjoying learning and appreciating the art of cooking. I started with a day of baking with my mother in law and I was hooked! Not to mention my new stepkids... what was two... now is four! Our family is growing we now have a grandson, Damien, and one on the way! My grandson loves his visits with Gramma and Grampa...We spend quality time in the kitchen snd chronical our visits here on AR!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! It is my therapy...I love to buy and read all types of recipe books ( call me old fashion ) but it's fun to pick out 1 recipe in a new book and try it the day I get the book!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I have great times cooking meals together! When the kids come to visit we let them request their menu of choice. Funny twist... my two boys request Jim's culinary feasts... Jim's two request Stepmom's dinner delights! Works out fine at the end of the day!
My cooking triumphs
Check out my pics, the wedding cake? It was my 1st attempt at a wedding cake... can you believe it... I still can't!
My cooking tragedies
so many... hard to pick just one! but isn't that the joy of cooking?
