November... And We've Just Begun!

This may be one of my favorite month's of the year!  I say that every year... but it just proves to be more true with every passing year... " I love Fall!"

Right before my fav month emerges... Fall back savings time happens... I am not a morning person so this is just a gift from my personal religious creator ( trying to be PC here) I miss that friggin hour that is taken from me in the spring.  Any hoo!  That was just the prelude to my Happy November...

It is no secret that I love food... Southern born.... southern bred... this has to be the start of food fest at it's best... Can You Say Holiday Southern Style?

I start smellin' brown sugar, sweet potatos, cinnamon, let me correct that sentiment... replace smellin' with Dreamin'!  Seriously... I dream fall food! ( ok who are we kidding?  I just dream food year round, please don't judge

I had the best dream the other day... Oatmeal Whoopie Pies!  Had all the ingredients!

So here is how this story was supposed to go... Got all the ingredients.. keeping two toddlers... toddlers love helping Oma in the kitchen... Take pictures for a great AR blog... Happy day in the Tripp kitchen with AJ and Oma's angel Audrie!

Ingredients pre measured and placed in prep order...
cherubs standing on pre positioned stations at counter...
Oma, camera ready for a well documented fall baking experience with her two little loves...
What was I thinking?............
Never expect to bake with toddlers and take pictures... unless you hire a photographer!

Now this is the reality of the " Fantasia Whoopie Pie Tale!"  Pre measure ingredients, place toddlers in position and proceed to bake. Do not leave said Toddlers to take pics!  I repeat do not take pictures... unless you hire a professional photographer or at least have another reponsible adult in your kitchen.

We had a great time, once I put my expectations on the side burner... In reality, all we really need is the final documention of the end product... and the story of how we got there... I had a great day with my future bakers! By the looks of their huge smiles and flour dusted t-shirts, I can only surmise... It was a great day in the kitchen with Oma!

I love the changing of the seasons. (I live in SoCal---go figure---but not always!) My problem is that while I love the air, the sound of football in the air, etc., I don't always enjoy the food. Too many veggies for me! I "get" that people love that, though. Baking with toddlers is great fun! A real workout!

Terry - nice blog! I'm a northern Buckeye thru & thru by birth - but I swear I should have been a southerner! I love the south! When my kids were small I had the patience to let them help out in the kitchen. We'd make whole batches of sugar cookies that they would decorate then only they could eat (how can you offer up a cookie that some 2-yr old licked while decorating?). LOL I now have "adopted psuedo" grandchildren and they love to help their "American Grandma" in the kitchen. I find myself biting my tongue and grinding my teeth. Stop to take pics?? No way!! I had to chuckle when I read that! Happy Fall to ya!

I had to giggle at this, and it reminded me of my nieces...they could get into EVERYTHING when they were little...SO FAST! Once they got into my mom's perfume and lotion drawer...before we could find them, we could smell them. lol!

My grandaughters have a date in two weeks to make sugar cookies and decorate them. I bought new wilton cookie cutters especially for this event. I must admit I am a little apprehensive about it. I am a little anal about things in the kitchen or so I am told!!! They are 10, 9 and 2 1/2 years old. The older ones it will be ok. It is the 2/12 year old one I am worried about. I am sure she will have a plate of her own cookies to eat also.

Char, Audrie and I make sugar cookies for halloween. We made cookie paint with egg yellows, water and food coloring... just paint the cookies before you bake them! Trust me it was less mess for a two year old to use than the icing and sugar sprinkles... Just a paint brush in her tiny hand... she had a ball!

About Me
I was a working mother of 2 boys! I didn't have much time for cooking... now that the boys are grown and on their own... I have been enjoying learning and appreciating the art of cooking. I started with a day of baking with my mother in law and I was hooked! Not to mention my new stepkids... what was two... now is four! Our family is growing we now have a grandson, Damien, and one on the way! My grandson loves his visits with Gramma and Grampa...We spend quality time in the kitchen snd chronical our visits here on AR!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! It is my therapy...I love to buy and read all types of recipe books ( call me old fashion ) but it's fun to pick out 1 recipe in a new book and try it the day I get the book!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I have great times cooking meals together! When the kids come to visit we let them request their menu of choice. Funny twist... my two boys request Jim's culinary feasts... Jim's two request Stepmom's dinner delights! Works out fine at the end of the day!
My cooking triumphs
Check out my pics, the wedding cake? It was my 1st attempt at a wedding cake... can you believe it... I still can't!
My cooking tragedies
so many... hard to pick just one! but isn't that the joy of cooking?
