Pantry Cooking ... First Time Having to Use the Neighbors Pantry too!

I haven't had my little angel all week. Her mommy had knee surgery and is keeping her at home. As usual when she is not occupying Oma's time... I turn to my second love... Baking!

I go to my pantry to check out the available treasures and for the first time ever... No butter ... no milk! Seriously this has never happened to me before! Since we are a one vehicle family by choice and the hubby is working today... I'm not walkin' to the store!

What to do?... What to do?

I go again to my favorite food site... peruse through the recipes... frantically searching for something to bake that did not require, the greatest gift to a baker, BUTTER. Well I found out exactly what I expected... No luck!

However now that I am in baking mode and there is no turning back, I can't get this cinnamon roll craving out of my head: Why ? You ask...

1. I've never made them before.

2. I'm on this kopy cat kick that a Crazy friend of mine turned me onto ( thanks Stevie )... I really wanna copy Cinnabon cinnamon rolls.

3. Today was just made for baking... fairly cool, early fall day, with low humidity, windows open to waft the heavenly oven smells throughout the house and the neighborhood!

I check into my Facebook page and see that little block that says... What's on your mind!  I share what's on my mind.... " I need Butter! "  not ten minutes later, my phone rings... " Oma, do you need some butter?"  Tiffany to the rescue... God bless my Angels mommy!

.....And let the baking begin!

Oh I've been where you are at - wanting to make something specific but am short an ingredient. I do have my own vehicle, but the store is about 10-15 min. away and I can never justify the trip. I do have 2 neighbors but neither bakes so rarely would they have ingredients on hand. So.... I usually scrounge until I can find something I can make. You're lucky to have that little Angel and her mommy!

Butter and milk I always have - I keep an extra pound of butter in the freezer and a container of shelf stable milk in the pantry, but I have still been in your fix. I hope the little angel's mommy is making a good recovery.

About Me
I was a working mother of 2 boys! I didn't have much time for cooking... now that the boys are grown and on their own... I have been enjoying learning and appreciating the art of cooking. I started with a day of baking with my mother in law and I was hooked! Not to mention my new stepkids... what was two... now is four! Our family is growing we now have a grandson, Damien, and one on the way! My grandson loves his visits with Gramma and Grampa...We spend quality time in the kitchen snd chronical our visits here on AR!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! It is my therapy...I love to buy and read all types of recipe books ( call me old fashion ) but it's fun to pick out 1 recipe in a new book and try it the day I get the book!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I have great times cooking meals together! When the kids come to visit we let them request their menu of choice. Funny twist... my two boys request Jim's culinary feasts... Jim's two request Stepmom's dinner delights! Works out fine at the end of the day!
My cooking triumphs
Check out my pics, the wedding cake? It was my 1st attempt at a wedding cake... can you believe it... I still can't!
My cooking tragedies
so many... hard to pick just one! but isn't that the joy of cooking?
