I set out this morning in a baking mood. Usually I have my little Angel Audrie here with me, but Mom had the day off. First order of business is to check pantry and fridge for available ingredients.
Not looking too good:
plenty of flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar.
reg. milk and left over buttermilk
one lone packet of yeast
1 stick of butter
1 stick of margarine
No powdered sugar
Wow what to bake.... what to bake? I headed to my favorite recipe site... not sure of what I would find. I have never been a successful biscuit baker but I'm sure I have all the ingredients to make a good stab at it again! Searchin' for the biscuit recipes...
came across one called Angel Biscuits... Bingo!... this is the one to attempt on this day! Subtitute one angel for another!!!
Off to the kitchen I go armed with my trusty All recipes on my laptop! ( by the way I love the kitchen friendly view on the site.) Anyhoo... I embark on my Angel biscuit adventure. The recipe is saved in my recipe box, for any interest.
First the dry ingredients... instead of shortening I used combo of butter and margarine..lost my pastry blender ,so had to use the two knife method. ( Ugh!) After that grueling task on to the wet... just buttermilk and yeast.
A few kneads later, a little " roll, roll, roll your dough, cut those puppies, onto a baking sheet and covered to let rise for one hour.... (waiting... trying not to peek to see if they are rising) Ding! Into the oven for 10 minutes and Oh My Goodness...
out come the most gorgeous biscuits I have ever seen... and they taste as good as they look!
Ok... I am in serious biscuit heaven and I am surrounded by two dozen of it's Angels.... well ok... two shy of two dozen! Sooooo Gooood!
