OK just gotta say it... Day 9 Down! Smoke free!

( await applause)

By now a lot of you know the loves in my life... Jim, the grandson, our kids, Oma's Angel, sports, food and of course the cooking of food!  Now I want to introduce you all to two other loves of my life... my cats, Bailey and Maxie.

You ask...Why do I bring up cats on a food blog?  Let me tell you.

Bailey, our 6 year old Maine Coon mix, is a rescue kitty.  For a rescue he sure does have quite the taste for the finer foods in life.  Bailey eats only white meat of the chicken. He prefers the claw meat of the snow crab.  If you are going to feed him liver... it better not be calves liver... see where I'm heading with this?

On the other hand we have Maxie!  She is a one year old Calico, also a rescue, not from a shelter, but from my neighborhood.  I kept hearing this mournful cry... for two days.. couldn't find her... Finally, there she was in a water meter with the lid closed. Not bearly 3-4 weeks old, and yet she was home and proves to be my not so picky eater... paper towels, dark meat of the chicken, and yes... just give her chicken livers!

Do you ever wonder if pets have taste buds or particular food preferances?  I'm thinkin' they do!

Well between the two, they keep me busy, entertained and my lap full!

Bailey High Five! 46 days down!

Is Bailey your picky eater on the left? Cute cats... With our two cats, we decided this time to never give them table food (because our previous two would beg and whine and get most anything they wanted.) They loved American cheese and ham when I was fixing sandwiches for lunch. My Mom & Dad's cat loved a few pieces of muskmelon. Whaatt?? And would eat a whole ear of uncooked sweet corn. Not like their cat was spoiled or anything. Right. They bought shrimp in the shell as treats for the cat.

Love your blog! Congrats on day 9! Both of our kitties, Maddy and Mason, are spoiled, but Maddy takes it to a new level. She loves shrimp most of all and used to get it at every meal. Now it's more of a snack as she has discovered and loves Bi-Lo's "Paws Premium" since we moved to Greenville (thank goodness!) Mason is easier to please but loves ham and turkey lunch meat and shredded cheese as a treat. See you soon!

Faye, Thanks for the words of encouragement! I figured that I will be saving at least 300.00 per month! That is a heck of a spa day once a month! ... or at least a good shopping spree!

Your kitties are cute Terry. My son found a little wild gray kitten on the college campus and she was added to the two we already had. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd have three cats. The wild child loves anything at all to eat, must be from living outside her first five weeks of life. Anyway glad to see you made another day of smoke-free. Wish my husband would do that.

Aw cute kitties! My aunt has a cat that amazingly, only eats cat food, even though the three dogs in the house get gourmet people food (usually leftovers from my grandmother's house).

Yep, in our area it's always called muskmelon. However, I believe there are subtle differences. I think muskmelon are larger, with ribbed outside rind and gets more yellow/orange on the outside as it ripens. Cantaloupe is more evenly rounded, not ribbed with a tightly netted looking rind/skin and doesn't really turn much of a color on the outside when ripe. Of course, I could have that totally backwards, so anyone feel free to step in and correct.

About Me
I was a working mother of 2 boys! I didn't have much time for cooking... now that the boys are grown and on their own... I have been enjoying learning and appreciating the art of cooking. I started with a day of baking with my mother in law and I was hooked! Not to mention my new stepkids... what was two... now is four! Our family is growing we now have a grandson, Damien, and one on the way! My grandson loves his visits with Gramma and Grampa...We spend quality time in the kitchen snd chronical our visits here on AR!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! It is my therapy...I love to buy and read all types of recipe books ( call me old fashion ) but it's fun to pick out 1 recipe in a new book and try it the day I get the book!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I have great times cooking meals together! When the kids come to visit we let them request their menu of choice. Funny twist... my two boys request Jim's culinary feasts... Jim's two request Stepmom's dinner delights! Works out fine at the end of the day!
My cooking triumphs
Check out my pics, the wedding cake? It was my 1st attempt at a wedding cake... can you believe it... I still can't!
My cooking tragedies
so many... hard to pick just one! but isn't that the joy of cooking?
