Sorry it has been a while since my last blog.  Been a lot going on.  Jim's 56 y.o. brother died on June 30th.  Anniversary of Mom's death on the 28th of June,  Son "Alan"'s 23rd Birthday on July 11th,  on July 14th ,son "Rob" Graduated from Ranger Training -75th Regimine, U.S Army!  And It has been sooo hot  in Columbia S.C....... 48 days in a row... 90 plus degrees!

Now... I'm not using all of this as an excuse for not blogging.... but don't you think it would be a good one if I did?

After taking care of my sorely neglected flowers and my vegetable garden.... I finally sat down at my computer.... after almost a month... I missed sharing the positive side that I tend to find during these hard times.

We miss Mike and Mom so much!  Mike was only 2 years older than Jim.  He was an inspiration to my cooking, but more to my love of sports, but that it a whole separate blog. Mike's passing at such a young age makes me think about the love of my life, Jim,  I plan on keeping him a little bit longer.... Jim and I stopped smoking!  6 days today!

(Await applause)

Despite all of this hot weather... the garden is thriving!  When I mentioned " too hot for for words"... I was talking the peppers that I planted this season.  What was I thinking?  Hot banana peppers, Mild jalapenos, Hot jalapenos, Worlds hottest peppers, and one plant that I thought was bell peppers.... but yet another jalapeno style ( wicked hot ) pepper...What kind of mood was I in  at planting season?

The tomato's are also loving the hot temps!  I'm guessing salsa is on the menu soon... I hope the neighbors are in the mood for some - a - spicy - a - hotta - salsa! Looks like the crops are a plenty!

Here's to the memory of our lost loved ones and the successes of our current loves and especially to the hot days and dishes of a Carolina summer!

Miss you Pop and Mike! Pop lived and loved 56 years... Mike kept his legacy intact through his se

Terry and Jim, I am so sorry for your loss. He was much too young to die and I know it was a shock to everyone. Congratulations and applause to you both for quitting smoking! I did that over 20 years ago now and never thought I could. I am so glad, especially now they are so very expensive!! Just think of the money you will be saving!! Also "thank you" to Rob for his service in the Army. I am grateful for all our service people. Sounds like your garden is doing well in spite of the 90 + degree heat. Here in Texas we have had almost three weeks of 100 + temps and I am so ready for fall! I enjoy your blog but sorry to see the sad news. Praying for better days and peace......Ginny

Hi Terry, sorry for your loss, sounds like you have had a couple of very busy weeks. Be proud of you and hubby quitting smoking, I have never smoked and understand that it is so hard to do, I wish you both success. This is a good first step in being healthier so that you will be able to continue to see your sons grow as young men....lifes lessons sometimes are very hard, sounds like you have both learned some things with Mike's passing, sad that it has to come to that....Keep on being inspired to cook and remember the good times with family!

About Me
I was a working mother of 2 boys! I didn't have much time for cooking... now that the boys are grown and on their own... I have been enjoying learning and appreciating the art of cooking. I started with a day of baking with my mother in law and I was hooked! Not to mention my new stepkids... what was two... now is four! Our family is growing we now have a grandson, Damien, and one on the way! My grandson loves his visits with Gramma and Grampa...We spend quality time in the kitchen snd chronical our visits here on AR!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! It is my therapy...I love to buy and read all types of recipe books ( call me old fashion ) but it's fun to pick out 1 recipe in a new book and try it the day I get the book!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I have great times cooking meals together! When the kids come to visit we let them request their menu of choice. Funny twist... my two boys request Jim's culinary feasts... Jim's two request Stepmom's dinner delights! Works out fine at the end of the day!
My cooking triumphs
Check out my pics, the wedding cake? It was my 1st attempt at a wedding cake... can you believe it... I still can't!
My cooking tragedies
so many... hard to pick just one! but isn't that the joy of cooking?
