Creamy Slow Cooker Potato Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2011
There's a reason many are complaining about the "grainy" or "gooey" texture of this soup. NEVER use a blender or food processor to mash potatoes. There are starch packets inside the potato cells and the blender blades rip right through them, releasing the starch and this makes the potatoes into library paste. Mash the potatoes in this recipe by hand the old-fashioned way to your desired consistency and it will turn out fine.

Slow Cooker Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2014
If there's one thing a slow cooker is not designed for, it's a recipe with the word "Crisp" in the title. A slow cooker is designed to keep all the moisture in the recipe, letting none escape, plus it almost always manufactures more and more moisture throughout the cooking time. Especially with moisture-laden ingredients like apples. Thus, this apple "crisp" recipe came out for me like applesauce, or applemush, with the apple pieces swimming in more than a cup of liquid in the bottom of the crockpot by the end of the even reduced cooking time I used. And way too sweet. I'll stick with baking my Apple Crisp the oven.

Slow Cooker Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2011
This recipe worked out great for me as is, although I added 3 different kinds of mushrooms because we LOVE mushrooms. I totally agree that the amount of broth depends on the type of bread you use (whole grain more, white less; dry cubes more, fresh less). But what I don't get is those folks who say that they stirred the mixture every hour while cooking. Anyone who takes the cover off the crock pot during cooking, EVEN ONCE, EVEN TO PEEK (that's why they have glass covers!), defeats 90% of the purpose and benefits of crock pot cooking -- moisture retention, proper temp retention, flavor infusion, start-it-and-forget-it ease of cooking, etc. This goes for anything you cook in a crock pot. As this recipe says, you stir all the ingredients in a mixing bowl until moistened, then transfer to the crock pot, cover, and cook on low for 4 to 8 hours. Perhaps every crock pot recipe needs to add the phrase "AND DO NOT REMOVE THE COVER FOR ANY REASON WHILE COOKING!"

The Real Mojito

Reviewed: May 18, 2013
The recipe ingredients call for club soda, yet the instructions say to fill the glass with "carbonated water." Club soda and carbonated water are two very different things.

Slow Cooker Cream of Potato Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2012
Too many leeks, and under no circumstances would I ever put potatoes in a blender or food processor or mash or cream. They will turn to a thick gluey mess.

Balsamic Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: May 29, 2015
These easy chicken breasts were very tasty. Other types of cheese work well too with the balsamic reduction flavors.
