I work full time at a desk job and part time on weekends bartending. I love coming up with new ideas to try for recipes and doing things in cooking I've never been taught before. I have a son and one on the way due in mid May 2011. My bf and I live in Iowa and are very much in love. but I'm not surprised. His last name is Cook! lol
My favorite things to cook
I love trying new things that will be healthy to eat for my family and that are unique from things I have tried to cook before.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Traditionally we make in OVERSIZED portions. lol, you would think we were cooking for an army instead of just the few of us. I would say there are more eating traditions than cooking ones. But if this counts, I host a weekly dinner party which is like a pot luck with a different theme for dishes. So we'll do like soup night, or make it with booze night, salad night. It's really fun!
My cooking triumphs
Making my father's creamed beef on toast on my own. :) Saturday's Dad would make creamed beef and not traditional sausage and gravy. I later found out it was a recipe my father got from our now laid to rest Nana. It was a touching moment to know part of her legacy lives on.
My cooking tragedies
I exploded chicken in college. I had tried to re-create my mother's chicken and hearty rice dish but had used to much cream of chicken soup. So to get rid off the excess I put the glass baking dish on the top burner to boil it off right?! That should work!? The glass pan EXPLODED! Rice, chicken, and soupy mess from the concentrated heat from the burner caused the glass to shatter. My roommates were so bummed!
