Since my wife and I are vegan, I made a vegan version of this. I didn't try to be exact, but as close as possible while staying within my ethical and (wimpy) hotness tolerance bounds. The only veggie hot dog I like a lot is Loma Linda, but theiy're not in my close-by grocerices, so I used Field Roast Italian sausage (very good), which I grilled. I used an Anaheim pepper, that's about as hot as I can take. Aside from that, I followed the recipe exactly. I thought it was great; my wife loved it, too. With some cole slaw, corn, and baked beans on the side, this was a wonderful pre-Memorial day barbecue feast.
