Adobo Chicken with Ginger

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2010
Adobo isn't supposed to be sweet by any means. If you're gonna add sugar or honey, please don't call it adobo. That's teriyaki. In this recipe, the vinegar to soy sauce ratio is off. Needs much more soy sauce. My mother is Filipina and this was a household staple. She never used a recipe, just went by taste and that's how I've learned. You can know when it's right because the color of the chicken should be a deep brown from the soy sauce. Adobo is a salty dish on it's own. That's why it's served over plain white rice to cut it. Also, I'm not sure about the whole peppercorns, regular black peper is just fine. I've never heard of using ginger either. The bay leaves are a must, though!!!

Spiced Sweet Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
I can see how this might be a bit too spicy for some. I highly recommend adding only 1/4 tsp of the cayenne pepper at first. Then if you feel its not spicy enough, add the other 1/4 tsp.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
Delicious! In my opinion, this is more of a caramel apple pie, but a welcome change from the usual. If you are seeking somethng more traditional, then you might need to add the cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. Per other reviewers I used red apples in fear of it being to tart and that was a mistake. It came out way too sweet. Next time I will follow as written or use less sugar. I also mixed the apples into the sauce and kept a bit on the side to pour over the top. It really did disguise my botched lattice job and made it look beautiful.

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: May 2, 2006
I followed the other reviews and I used 3 15-ounce cans of diced and stewed tomatoes instead of the tomato juice, and added a can of spicy V-8. I put it all in my crock-pot. It had the perfect consistency and was so delicious. Thank you for sharing! This will from now on be my "go-to" chili recipe.

Absolute Mexican Cornbread

Reviewed: May 2, 2006
This is much more like sweet Mexican corn cake than it is cornbread. It was way too sweet to go with my chili. I should have cut the butter and sugar as posted by previous reviewers. It was very delicious, it just didn't have a cornbread consistency.

Brooklyn Girl's Penne Arrabiata

Reviewed: May 1, 2006
Great recipe. Baked chicken in oven instead of frying. Also used a bit less pasta and an entire 15 ounce can of tomato sauce. Try using the fresh basil if you can. I will be keeping this one in my collection.

Linguine and Clam Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2006
This one is a regular around here for a few years now. I usually add another can of clams, drained. I like to add heavy cream and thicken with cornstarch if too thin. I also recommend extra garlic, and salt if needed. Delicious!!!

Chicken and Spinach Alfredo Lasagna

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2006
I also used half & half, and reduced-fat soup, and frozen spinach as suggested by other reviewers. I think I will add more chopped mushrooms the next time around. I am so impressed with this one. Thank you for sharing!!!

Shredded Beef for Tacos

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2006
Excellent. Couldn't find the hot tomato sauce and used Newman's Own salsa as suggested by another reviewer. I cooked it all in the slow cooker and shredded the meat when it was done, then I put in back into the slow cooker for about 30 minutes. The meat came out so delicious. I served on warm corn tortillas with onions, chopped cilantro, and lime wedges.

Spicy Beef Curry Stew for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: May 15, 2005
Excellent. Added fresh okra to the pot. It is definately spicy, so if that's not your thing, then I would recommend cutting back on the pepper.

Puttanesca I

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2005
Worth trying again. I was in a hurry and didn't read the other reviews, big mistake. Two tablespoons of olive oil is plenty unless you are looking for a recipe for Olive Oil Stew.
