Simple Whole Roasted Chicken

My first time making roast chicken-it came out well. I doubled the seasonings (except salt, and a little less sugar). I didn't have allspice, so I left that out. I sprinkled garlic powder inside and out. I rubbed the seasonings under the skin and on top of the skin, marinated for 24 hrs. I stuffed a quarter onion in the cavity. Then I roasted it for upside down for 15 minutes at 500, then right side up for 15 minutes at 450, then upside down for 30 at 425, then right side up for 10 more min at 425. I let it sit for 10 minutes. I was worried it would smoke, become to dry or not cooked through. Instead it was browned all over and perfectly done. I'll be roasting whole chicken again.
