Sweet Potato Casserole with Bacon

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
I loved this dish. I put my sweet potatoes (5 large)through a ricer after being cooked to get a nice fine texture instead of using a blender or food processor. I also used fat free half and half and added some of the crumbled bacon in the mix. I thought the spices were spot on....not to spicy...just hinted and that complimented well with the smokey bacon (I used almost a full pound of bacon in total) which I also added to the top of the casserole. Thanks!

Patty's Mashed Turnips

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
We love turnips and they are always a part of our Thanksgiving feast. I use fat free half and half as needed along with butter, salt and pepper. I use a potato masher to break up my turnips. Thanks!

Campbell's® Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
I dont normally make this for Thanksgiving...but this year decided to try it and glad I did. Was never a fan of this dish as a kid....but this time around, it was very good. I used frozen green beans instead of canned. I also added more crispy onions than called for. Creamy and very good....very easy to prepare also...made the day before and then reheated on Thanksgiving. Thanks!

Slow Cooker Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
My familys favorite! I omit the eggs and make this the night before. Yesterday I re-moistened with some chicken broth and transferred to my slow cooker....started on low and turned to warm stirring every so often to ensure no sticking. I also spray my insert with a little non cooking spray to also ensure no sticking. Its a perfect tasting recipe and the slow cooker method to keeping it hot and moist .....well for me there is no other way. Second year in a row making this and will continue to do so...one less dish to re-heat in the oven. Thanks!

Chicken Katsu

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2012
Really good....family loved it...I ended up finding Italian style panko crumbs so this chicken was not lacking flavor at all. Kids used ketchup or ranch dressing for dipping. Crispy and yummy. Thanks!

Quick Pickled Jalapeno Rings

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2012
Amazing and so very easy.....I used green and red jalapenos that I was gifted from someones garden and made 6 pint sized jars. I adjust the recipe for 8 servings to ensure I had enough brine. It was perfect. I stuffed the jars with the sliced pepper rings and then poured the hot brine over as did other reviewers. I had somme on chili last night and they were spicy and a little sweet all at the same time and the jalapeno was still crisp! Excellent....I cant say enough about this easy recipe. Thanks!

Texas Cowboy Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2012
Loved this and it made a ton of leftovers which was perfect. I made this in the crockpot and used stew meat instead of ground beef, turkey kielbasa and canned vegetarian beans. This was very hearty and filling. Made this the day of hurricane Sandy and hence my power going out that night....I was able to reheat on my gas stove top the next day. Everyone enjoyed this all in one meal. Thanks!

Pretty good....use a low fat mayo and it was not Hellman's....not sure if that really mattered or not. Also used a whole wheat bread crumb. Easy and pretty tasty. Thanks!

Coffee Mug Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2012
It was just ok for us.....a lil time consuming for something that was just alright. I do like the mug concept though and have made other similar recipes that were very good. I did like the crumb topping...I just thought the cake was a bit too "eggy" tasting for me. But thanks for a creative recipe.

BREAKSTONE'S and KNUDSEN Cheesy Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2012
I thought this was really good, I used a cream o' mushroom soup and added some carmalized mushrooms and onions to the mix. I topped with french fried dried onion pieces (Frenches) brand instead of the crackers and omitted the butter. I also had to use velveeta cheese cubed instead of cheddar since it was all I had on hand. I used a 2%. Thanks!

Really delicious! I used a 3lb boneless chuck roast and made Zippy Barbecue Sauce from this site instead of using bottled. Served on potato rolls with homemade cole slaw on top and some xtra bbq sauce. Thanks!

Progresso® Creamy Chicken Piccata

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2012
Hubby and I thought it was ok....kiddos didnt like it at all.. lacking flavor big time and thats after I felt like I amped it up. I used a whole jar of capers, half a squeezed lemon, doubled the sauce which was way too thin, so I thickened the sauce with a lil cornstarch and water so it wasnt soup consistency. Served over whole grain linguine. Just lacked major flavor. This is my second time using these Starter sauces...and I dont think I will waste my money again. I do realize they are "starter sauces" ...but even though the recipes are quick and easy to get to the table, I ended up tossing food off of dinner plates last night....so sorry, but this was not for us.

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2012
I am giving this a 5 because my 14 year old made these while I was at work and surprised us with this dessert. She did a great job on her own. Cakes were moist and nicely spiced and the frosting on the inside was not too sweet. She used butter instead of shortning. The only teeny flaw was that I only had whole cloves in the house and she was unaware that I had a seperate spice grinder. So, she decided to chop the whole cloves the best she could....LOL....so yes, there are small pieces of the cloves in the cookie...but she tried and a definate 5 for this tasty treat. Thanks!
