Greek Lentil Soup (Fakes)

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2014
The only change I made to the recipe was to use more carrots- I used 4, and I accidently put in 2 tbsp of tomato paste which I don't think hurt the recipe at all. My husband, 3 year old and 2 year old loved this soup. I really liked it too but I thought it was way too oily and I didn't even drizzle the olive oil on top after cooking. I'll definitely make this again but next time I'll use half of the olive oil and maybe throw in a few more carrots and it'll be perfect! Thanks for sharing!

Tortillas I

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2014
I grew up eating store brought tortillas and this was the first time I made them at home so I'm not really the most knowledgable on authentic tortillas, but these came out really good. I found that I needed more water than called for- over a half of a cup more! The only substitution I made was to use bacon fat instead of the shortening. My tortillas came out soft, pliable, and chewy (in a good way). I put the leftover tortillas and a damp paper towel in a ziploc bag in the fridge in the hopes that they'll stay soft and chewy when we finish the batch off this weekend. Good recipe that I'll definitely use again!

Mama Corleone's Sausage and Peppers

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2014
A decent recipe to use as a jumping off point. It was just okay, kinda bland. Next time I'll use more seasoning (probably fresh instead of dried), definitely MORE garlic, and maybe some onion and crushed tomatoes.

Pollo (Chicken) Fricassee from Puerto Rico

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2014
I don't know if it's fair to give this recipe 5 stars even though I made some slight changes to it but the changes were slight and the end result was sooooooo good! The changes I made were: 1) Instead of using a tsp each of oregano and cumin, I used a tbsp each. 2) I forgot the bay leaves (oops!). 3) I didn't have fresh cilantro so I used 1 1/2 tbsp. dried cilantro. 4) I didn't have green peppers so I just used all red peppers. 5) I didn't have red potatoes so I used white potatoes. 6) I added a few manzanilla olives because of the other suggestions. Next time I'll make sure I have exactly what I need and try the recipe as written because when I winged it it was really good so I'm sure the original is even better!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2014
I hosted Christmas dinner this year and I made these for dessert but when I tasted one I packed ALL of the rest of them up and hid them. Then, I went to the market, got a sugar cookie tray and served that instead. I don't know if I ate anything besides these cookie for the next week with a cup of coffee. It was heaven.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2013
I'm not always overly dramatic about food (lie, yes I am) but I died and went to heaven. Perfection! I will use this recipe often for the rest of my life and, when I'm gone from this world, my kids and grandkids will make this recipe and good memories of being young and holiday dinners and Grammy's homemade cornbread (because I'm totally taking credit for this recipe in my family) will come flooding back to them. Thank you so much for sharing!

Easy Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2013
I followed the directions and what I got was a super sweet, way too oniony, greasy loaf of mush. My husband never complains about food, even when he doesn't like something he still eats it, but even he couldn't eat this. Meatloaf should taste like meat and be solid, almost like a hamburger in loaf form. This is the worst recipe I've gotten from this site!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2013
The first bite I took immediately gave me diabetes BUT it was soooo worth it! These brownies were so amazingly good but way, way, way too sweet for my family. Next time I won't do the icing and maybe I'll add a few chocolate chips instead. I even left the honey out of the icing because I didn't have any in my pantry and it was still ridiculously rich. The brownie itself came out chewy and fudgy and just perfect. This will be my new go to brownie recipe. It was just as easy as the boxed stuff but so much better. Thank you for sharing!

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2013
Maybe it was because I used only butter instead of shortening and butter but these cookies had NO flavor, they were so dry, and the suggested baking time left my cookies burnt on the bottom and as hard as a rock. I

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2013
These were really good! I've been looking for a good, basic sugar cookie and I think I found it. The only change I made was to use 1 tsp more vanilla and I'm very glad I did. The taste was perfect. The only thing I'll change next time is to make the cookies bigger (they were super tiny) and maybe I'll chill the dough or cook them less because I like my sugar cookies chewy but these came out crispy. Other than them being too small and crunchy, they were perfect. Definitely my new sugar cookie recipe!

White Chocolate and Cranberry Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2012
I made these tonight and, like others, I didn't have brandy so I used vanilla extract. I also added a bit of orange zest to the mix. They were VERY good. I'd definitely cut back on the sugar some since they were a little too sweet for my taste. But, overall, they were a hit and I'll definitely be making them again.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

My cousins always rave about this chocolate cake my aunt makes so I was really excited to try it when she brought it to thanksgiving dinner tonight. It was the best chocolate cake EVER. As soon as I came him from dinner I sat down and looked up this recipe. Now I know what I'm bringing to every dinner I'm asked to bring something to. Delicious.

Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2012
I make this ham every year for Easter and Christmas at the request of my husband and his entire family. My family doesn't eat ham but if they did they'd LOVE this recipe too! It doesn't get any easier or tastier. I love that I can throw the ham in the crockpot and just let it do it's thing while I take care of all of the other things that a host needs to do for a large group of people and it comes out perfect.

Mediterranean Chicken and Couscous

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2011
This recipe was fast and couldn't have been any easier to make. I didn't have the Kraft dressing so I just subbed balsamic vinegar and added a little white sugar while cooking the onions just to cut the acidity. Overall, it was pretty good. Since it was so fast and easy, I'll definitely make it again.
