Chili Seasoning Mix II

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2003
I will use this from now on, and this is coming from a girl who refuses to use chili "season packets", but as a previous reviewer stated "this is right on"! I added a tbsp. more chili powder and a can of Red Gold "picante" tomato sauce to our adult version and it was fantastic! No need to use the jalapenos, hubby liked it just fine. Thanks so much Sara!

Chicken Broth in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2003
This was good after I added peppercorns, garlic & chicken boullion. I LOVED the ease of the crockpot, but it was a little on the bland side. I used a left over oven roaster with wings & some breast meat and added 3 legs so maybe that was why. After I spruced it up a bit it was very good. Thanks Micki.

Cheesiest Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2003
Now this is what I was looking for. I used home grown tomatoes that I stewed ( using Italian stewed tomatoes recipe from this site). I didn't add the broth because the fresh tomatoes were plenty watery, so I added chicken boullion to compensate. I added sugar as well. Thanks for the great recipe Sara!

Stuffed Pork Chops III

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2003
Very easy. Both hubby & I loved the chops simmered in the beef broth, however the stuffing was just a little on the "plain" side. I will season it a bit more next time. I used center cut bone in chops, and just stitched the two together after stuffing. Thanks Karen for the easy yet tasty dish.

Chicken Breasts with Herb Basting Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2003
Like Zipporah, I used this on a whole chicken and it turned out fab. Tender & juicy. I agree that it did smell funky, I kept thinking that there was stuffing in the oven as well. I threw some cut potatoes in with the chicken and the basting sauce & they turned out great as well. Thanks Christine!!

Melanie's Garden-Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2003
Pretty good, I agree that it needed more sugar. Came out like a generic spaghetti sauce. Easy if you're craving tomato soup. Thanks CLM.

Zucchini Tomato Soup II

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2003
I agree that this is a great way to use up garden veges, however it had the look and texture of jarred baby food carrots (it was odd that it turned orange). I would recommend deseeding the zucchini because it had seeds in it that didn't puree. Although it didn't taste bad, but it wasn't "wow" either. Thanks anyway Beverly. ;)

Pork Butt Roast with Vegetables

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2003
My husband is a big fan of dark meat of chicken and pork, so this was right up his alley! I did as "nightwish5150" did and used broth (vegetable) with a little water (as needed) and then made a really tasty gravy out of that. I also stuck this in my crock pot after searing it (86 degrees & veeeerrry humid = no oven for me)! Very juicy and tasty, thanks kmitschke!

Italian Dressing Mix

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2003
This ROCKS! I actually made and used it as a dry seasoning on a beef roast, which turned out great. Yesterday I decided to use it as a dressing on a cucumber, tomato & onion salad and the entire family enjoyed it. Thanks for the great recipe Debby!

Banana Pancakes I

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2003
I made these for my little guy, who is allergic to eggs, so I added a 1/2 extra banana mashed with a little extra baking powder (common sub). I had to turn the heat down a bit on them as the extra additions took a little longer to cook, but he LOVED them. Thanks for the great alternative Andrea!

Best Ever Pie Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2003
This was the first time that I have made an apple pie (which is what I used it for) so I really don't have much to compare it too. For me, the crust was sooo simple to make, but a little hard to work with. I had to use butter flavored shortening, because that is all that I had on hand. To me, I think it could have used a little more salt (I may have not added the whole amount = my fault) but I brought it over to my Mom's house and it was devoured, in fact I didn't get to try it with the filling. Very flaky. I will use this again. Thanks Jean!

Apple Pie Filling

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2003
EXCELLENT! I have finally found a use for the numerous amounts of apples that my tree produces (well another use besides all of the neighborhood kids throwing them at each other - HA). This was easy, delicious, and very universal in that it can be used for pies or just heated with ice cream on top. Thanks so much Terri!

Baked Spaghetti Corn

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2003
This went over well with the kids, not to mention I really liked it as well! I had no problem with hard noodles, I used Macaroni (easier for the baby). I was leary about not draining the corn, but it was fine (it was needed to cook the noodles). I added a layer of crushed ritz crackers over the top, YUM. Thanks Molly!!

Blackened Fish

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2003
WOO-HOOOO this has a great kick! I dipped the fish in the butter & then rolled it into the spice mixture, which depending on your "buds" I may or maynot recommend. I loved it, it was nice & spicy. Thanks Susan, I now have a great recipe to use up my Dads fresh catch with!

Grilled Chicken Breast with Cucumber and Pepper Relish

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2003
EXCELLENT! I used thin sliced breasts, so that we could put em' on a bun topped with the relish. SOOOO good, and not to mention low cal. I used the extra relish on brats the next day & it was equally as good. Good recipe, thanks Fiona!!

Absolutely Ultimate Potato Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2003
Absolutely amazing!! I loved the thickness, but the next day I had to add water to it because it was really thick, like mashed potatoes! I added quite a bit of salt because of the potato\flour, therefor I may cut the flour down next time, but it is a great soup. I served it with sprinkled with shredded sharp cheddar on top. My search for potato soup is over, thanks Karena!!

Homemade Crispy Seasoned French Fries

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2003
HOLY COW, these are great! Even my "once in a great while" (meaning he will eat 1 or 2) french fry eating husband ate quite a few. A little time consuming without a fry daddy, but WELL WORTH IT!! Thanks so much Cassie, we enjoyed these!

Easy Mac 'n' Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2003
Five stars just for the ease of this. I also used homemade cheese sauce (Nacho Cheese Sauce, from this site) and about a cup of it as we like it to be creamier. The baby LOVED this! I served it with fried fish without the hot dogs and then with the hot dogs for my non-fish eaters. Thanks Zania!

Beer Batter for Fish

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2003
Very "cake" like, meaning it really disguised the fish as it was all batter. Once I thinned it out (quite a bit) the extra batter worked well with mushrooms & zucchini. It needed a little extra flavoring, but did the trick. Thanks Wilma!
