Pirates' Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2008
Tasty, quick and easy to make. Like others I thought the cooking time was too long. 20 minutes was enough. Next time I will put the stove fan on and open the windows a bit. The smell of the maple syrup cooking made the kitchen smell as if we had a fire. Thanks submitter.

Orange Garlic Spareribs

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2008
This was tasteless. I think part of it was that there was so much marinade that the spareribs were swimming in it and the ribs ended up being braised.

Bow Tie Pasta with Sausage and Sweet Peppers

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2008
I would rate this higher and the leftovers were delicious. If prepared the way this recipe is written I can see that it could be bland but I followed what the reviewers suggested and sauteed a medium onion and 2 tbls. of italian herbs in some oil, added the peppers and hot italian sausage (removed from casing). Cooked till sausage was almost done, added the cooked pasta, whole can of beef stock and canned mushrooms. Let it all simmer for about 15 minutes covered. Passed around the Parmasean cheese which was delicious on it. This is a real keeper. Quick and easy to make, low in calories and inexpensive.

Green and Bleu Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2008
We loved it - all those different flavors just popped in your mouth. When I first tasted the dressing I was not impressed but poured over the salad it was delicious. I thought the addition of the blue cheese was fantastic but my guy liked it without it so the next time I will just pass around the blue cheese for people to add or not! There are leftovers and I'm looking forward to it tonite. Thanks submitter.

Dragon Fire Grilled Steak with Tangy Wasabi

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2008
The meat was good although it was quite chewey. I should have scored it before marinading it as I normally do. The Wasabi sauce was delicious! Thanks submitter.

Spareribs Cantonese

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2008
Not what I was expecting but amazingly good. Everyone loved them and it was easy to make. Followed recipe exactly except for the cooking time. I was using baby back ribs so I lowered the temp to 350 and cooked uncovered for 45 minutes and then basted them occasionally while they cooked another hour. Would definitely make this again when we want to get away from the traditional tasting ribs. Thanks submitter.

Cajun Style Meatloaf

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2008
This was great for dinner and super great the next day fried in olive oil for sandwiches. Loved the sandwiches!!! The only change I made was to leave out the green peppers, doubled the amount of onions and used hot Italian sausage. I also used regular milk since I didn't have evaporated and I don't think it made any difference. Next time I make this I am going to make two loaves and freeze one to have on hand for sandwiches. Thanks submitter.

Smothered Beef Short Ribs

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2008
I can't believe that I had never eaten or cooked short ribs until a few weeks ago. I saw a recipe for short ribs Asian Style and we were blown away with it. I decided to try making traditional short ribs and chose this recipe. Again - another 5 star receipe. I served it over mashed potatoes. What a hit! Thank you submitter.

Tangy Spare Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2008
I followed recipe EXACTLY and my sauce was runny and the taste of ketcup was overpowering. Had to make quite a few changes to it.

Charleston Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2008
Delicious - even the leftovers are great. Followed recipe exactly except that my casserole dish was an 8x8. I used the full amount of the recipe and had to cook it for 70 minutes. Thanks submitter - this is a keeper - Next time I will add some onions to it.

Eileen's Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2007
My family and I love meatloaf and my two favorites on this site are Mushroom Meatloaf and Italian Style Meatloaf I. I decided to try this out and it did NOT do it for us. Did not taste like the comfort food meatloaf that I grew up with.

Grilled 'Fusion' Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
Very easy. I made a mistake and added the garam masala to the maranade - in any event we liked the taste and I would make this again. Served it with Aloo Phujia (Indian style potatoes and onions). Forgot how great those potatoes are! Thanks submitter.

Spicy Flank Steak

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
As others said, this is not spicy at all - I too added some ground red pepper to it. I followed recipe exactly and also the cooking time and it came out perfectly for medium rare. I let it sit for 10 min. before slicing and this turned out to be the most tender and juiciest flank steak I have ever prepared. I don't know if it was the meat itself or the combination of these spices. I will try this again to see.

Plum Glazed Pork Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
Followed this recipe exactly and it gets 5+ stars. These baby backs were cooked to perfection. I'm on the fence about the taste of the sauce but my guy loved it. The one thing I will do forever is follow the cooking times for baby back ribs. Thanks so much submitter.

Chinese Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2007
I hate giving this such a low rating but everyone complained about the celery, even celery lovers - like myself. When I was preparing this I knew that the celery would be a bit crunchy since it was cooking for such a short time-and I was right. I had increased this to serve 12 since it sounded so good- but got lots of celery comments!! Like - "Rita, was there a sale on celery?". Celery lovers - this soup is for you. Like others I did substitute spinach for lettuce and angel hair pasta for Ramen noodles since I ran out of ramen. If you use angel hair you can put the pasta in this soup with the chicken and then cook it for 2 min. when it comes to a boil. Angel hair is always a good substitution for ramen noodles (break the pasta in half).

Chicken Pasta Salad II

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2007
Wonderful - as another reviewer said - it was genius to combine the Italian dressing and the mayo. I poached two chicken breasts and shredded that into large bite size pieces. I ended up having to mix up some more Italian dressing and mayo since I was using more chicken than called for - but that was easy enough. This should sit for a few hours or overnite. It was good when I first made it - but it was outrageous the next day!! I brought it for lunch and I can't wait to go home and dig into it some more.

Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2007
Mmmm-good! My favorite macaroni salad on this site is Kim's Macaroni Salad but I wanted something different. This is great - similar to Kim's but more veggies. I too cut way back on the sugar - one tablespoon - and had to use three jalapeno peppers in place of green (the jalapeno's are in Kim's!) Thanks submitter.

Flatlander Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2007
This turns out to be 5 stars if you follow what most reviewers do. And what I did. Substituted the tomato juice with tomato sauce and the tomato sauce with diced tomatoes. I also cut the chili powder in half and found that to be more than enough! But that is a matter of the chili makers preference!! Thanks sumbitter.

Carmel's Crunchy Pea Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2007
I was making quite a few dishes at one time so I cheated and used bacon bits (everyone knows bacon is so much better!). I regret putting in the cashews since it was crunchy enough with the celery. I added 2 tsp. of dried dill weed. I prefer Balsamic Pea Salad on this site.

Fast and Easy Spinach with Shallots

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2007
Found a bag of spinach in the veg bin that had to be used immediately - found this recipe doing a search and it was great. I used green onions and garlic powder since that was what I had and it worked out fine. Real fast and easy as the recipe says. Thanks submitter.
