Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2007
Wow! Terrific! Thank you submitter - no more looking around for baked Ziti recipes. My changes were minor. I used sweet and hot sausage instead of beef and probably a little more than called for. I mixed the ziti into the sauce which is something I always do. I'm afraid it will be too dry if I don't. Let me tell you - using sour cream was outrageous. I love ricotta but a lot of people don't. Everyone loved this recipe. Glad I have some leftovers!!!!

Spinach and Blue Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2007
This was quite good. I made it exactly as directed and it came out fine. I didn't use the bacon at the end - I forgot about it. It does make a lot of soup so I am following the advice of others and freezing it.

Polish Cabbage Noodles

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2007
I give it a 5 after using other reviewers suggestions - it was incredibly boring without their help. I did cut the recipe in l/2 - I was serving this as a side dish and it served 6 people even after halving it. I immediately followed reviewers comments by cooking 6 slices of bacon first (crumbled it and put aside). I wasn't sure if I should use the bacon grease to cook the cabbage and onions - decided against it (poured it out)and stuck with the butter. I had to add a little water to it to scrape up the bacon bits and you may need to add some more butter if it gets dry near the end of cooking. Now I tasted it before adding the noodles (which I cut back to 5 oz.) - and found it tasteless! All that trouble and no taste. First I added some celery salt (about a tsp.) and more pepper and it wasn't much better. Then I remembered someone suggested sugar. I tried a tablespoon and what a difference!!!! Adjust the sugar to your taste. I added in the noodles and the bacon and I could not believe the hit it turned out to be. I still have the other half of the cabbage so I am going to make it again tomorrow. Thanks submitter.

Suki's Spinach and Feta Pasta

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2007
Delicious and very simple and fast for a week night. I only had rigatoni on hand and used that. I halved the recipe to serve two people and was afraid that it would not be enough but it was plenty for two of us - we actually have a bit left over and look forward to the leftovers. Thanks submitter.

Sicilian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
I am still on a soup kick and love trying out new ones - this one was good but like others said - it needed more broth after it sat in the refrigerator for a few hours. So definitely keep some available.

Blue Cheese Crusted Filet Mignon with Port Wine Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
It was just ok - I think it should have called for more blue cheese - we felt that the top was a bit dry even though we topped it off with the sauce. Not sure I would make this one again although my guy doesn't agree - he would highly recommend it.

A winner! Didn't change a thing. You can definitely taste the garlic but everyone seemed to love that. This is a keeper.

Ed Zieba's Famous Family Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2007
Delicious and easy - I followed many of the reviewers comments and used BBQ sauce instead of water and I also put some rub on the chops too. Thanks submitter.

Pork Tenderloin Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2007
This is not a stew and it was just plain boring - I hesitated about making this and I should have followed my instincts. Pork is my favorite meat and there are soooo many other recipes to try on this site before making this. If you like bland, bland - this is for you.

Onions Baked with Rosemary and Cream

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2006
This was so good and so easy and the presentation is great. The only problem I had was that the chicken broth did evaporate so there wasn't any sauce. I just added the cream as suggested and hoped for the best. It was fine but I will add a lot more broth the next time or cover it for most of the time as another reviewer suggested.

Hash Brown and Pork Chop Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2006
Personally I would give it a three but my guy loved it and thinks it deserves a 5 or more! The porks chops were OK (I seasoned them before browning)- be prepared that they will be very pink inside if you use the temperature and time suggested. What really wowed my guy were the potatoes - he hates au gratin potatoes (which is what this is) but he loved this. He loved the crunch of the onion (which I didn't so I will saute them first the next time) and he loved the mushrooms (used cream of mushroom soup instead and will continue to do so). I inadvertantly forgot to add the milk but we both ended up liking the texture and I did add some red crushed pepper to spice it up. I will make these potatoes again and will play around with the recipe a little more. It is a quick recipe!

Peppered Bacon and Tomato Linguine

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2006
I give it 5 for the taste - my guy really loved it. But I give it a 1 on the way to cook this. First of all - I added the bacon at the very end - the recipe just calls for you to set it aside. I also agree with so many others - I only used 8 oz. of pasta and the sauce just covered it - I can't see how the recommended amount of sauce could cover a pound of pasta. I will make this again but I will keep this in my notes for the future. Thanks submitter.

Spectacular Marsala Glazed Carrots with Hazelnuts

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2006
This was very good but my sauce was very thin - next time I will add cornstach and water to the sauce and let it thicken before adding the carrots.

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2006
Spectacular! Will be making this often during the winter. I hunted high and low for a 4.5 oz package of the quick cooking rice with seasoning. Couldn't find it - had to use a 6.5 oz box with seasoning packet. I cooked the rice separately (didn't add seasoning packet) - it cooked for 25 min. While the rice was cooking I poached the chicken - both took 25 min. so they were finished together. Then I proceeded with the recipe but I left out the 2 cups of water since I was adding cooked rice. (the uncooked rice would have absorbed the 2 cups of water if I had used it). I used the seasoning packet as directed. I did find that 3/4 cup of flour was too much - I was slowly adding it so I was able to stop before it was too late - I used probably about 1/2 cup. Anyway - this was the creamiest, thickest soup I have ever tasted and the flavor was great - oh, I followed the suggestions of other reviewers and sauted some onion, carrots and celery and I am glad I did. It was much thicker the next day so I just thinned it a little with chicken broth - milk would have done the trick too. Thank you so much submitter.

Department Store Onion Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2006
Obviously this takes a long time to prepare and cook but it is worth it. Only change I made was when it called for one cup of wine I changed it to another l/2 cup of beef broth and 1/2 cup of sherry. Also added a little thyme. Thanks submitter.

Carrot and Ginger Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2006
Very disappointed - all I could taste was the ginger and I didn't even use the entire amount called for. If I did make this again, which I doubt, I would also use ground ginger since ginger does not puree very well. Bits of ginger throughout the soup.
