Blue Cheese Fried Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2007
Delicious - the 2 potatoes only served the "2" of us!!! I microwaved the potatoes for 5 minutes, then peeled and sliced them. The potatoes then did cook through in 15 minutes. (If you microwave the potatoes first you can slice them and the onions and prepare it earlier in the day.)

Mediterranean Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2007
I'd give this a 10 Plus. I could not stop eating it/half of it was gone before dinner! I followed the reviewers advice (so many agreed to the changes) - I only used a splash or two of lemon juice, I cut way back on the feta cheese and I used only 1/2 the amount of cucumber. The cucumber has a very strong taste in this salad. It was a hit - the next time though I am going to serve the Feta cheese on the side. Thank you so much submitter!

Syracuse Salt Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2007
I hate to spoil the 5 star rating but I have to. Straight away you know that the amount of salt and butter used in this recipe is not good for you but since I love potatoes I decided to go for it. No one ate more than a few bites!!! The salt was a killer. One person said that this was suicide on a plate. In any event - for all those salt lovers - go for it!!!

Josh's Four-Way Chili

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2007
I'm giving it five stars because it was terrific chili but I would give it 3 for the directions. Maybe it is just me since no one else complained. I cut the recipe in half therefore it called for only 1 can of Stewed Tomatoes. This needed a lot more than 1 can. I am wondering if Josh meant for us to also follow the directions of the chili seasoning and use those liquids. In any event, I ended up using a jar of salsa too. What we really liked was the combination of the beef and sausage.

Barbequed Ribs

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2007
This is a 5 Plus. My guy said they were the best ribs I've ever cooked - and I cook ribs alot! Most reviewers made no changes and if they did they were insignificant. The only change I made was in the cooking time. I did 300 degrees for 1 hour and 250 for another hour. More than that and my ribs would have been dry - but that is an individual call depending on the size of the baby backs. Thank you so much submitter.

Amish Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2007
This is really, really good but listen to the majority of reviewers. This calls for toooo much sugar. I followed the recipe for the pasta and salad ingredients (didn't use the relish). After reading everyone's comments I cut all the salad dressing ingredients in half - except for the sugar. I cut the sugar back to 1/4 cup and that was still too much. This makes a lot of macaroni salad. Will be making this again.

Bill's Blue Cheese Dressing

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2007
I have two or three great blue cheese dressing recipes but I felt like trying a new one since it was so highly rated. Even though I added more blue cheese than called for this just seemed to lack something. All my other blue cheese recipes called for buttermilk - so that might be what I miss.

Pasta Pancetta

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2007
I had Pancetta that I had to use up so I tried this dish. Didn't do it for us - very bland. Will not make again.

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2007
Added strawberries and blue cheese to it. I would cut back on the oil a bit next time.

Grilled Sausage Patties with Peppers and Onions

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2007
Been making this for years when I BBQ. People are so pleasantly surprised when I ask them if they want a frank, hamburger or a sweet or hot sausage pattie. The sausage seems to be the most popular! I make the pepper and onions the night before (a big batch because people seem to eat it like salad too!). I use those long Italian frying peppers - they are so sweet and I season the peppers and onions with Goya seasoning while they cook. You can find the patties premade in the meat section of your supermarket. - I also just use large hamburger buns - toast them on the grill!!!

Mocha Liqueur Shake

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2007
I almost gave it 4 stars because the taste of rum was powerful - but then realized it was my fault. I only had dark rum on hand and used that. Therefore it kind of overpowered the mocha taste. I will make it again using light rum and might try using half vanilla ice cream and half coffee. Thanks submitter.

Frozen Mudslide

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2007
5 Star plus. Only changes were based on other reviewers. I used half ice and half vanilla ice cream and also used vanilla vodka. MMMMMM good! Spent $55.00 in the liquor store getting the ingredients but it was worth it!

Caesar Salad Supreme

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
Cut back on the mayo just a bit per reviewers suggestions. The dressing was great but the croutons didn't do it for us. I would make this again using a different recipe for the croutons.

Texas Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2007
I doubled the recipe for 4 and it served 6 people. I didn't have frozen corn on hand so I used a good quality canned corn (15.25 oz cans - drained thoroughly) and added the corn during the last five minutes just to heat it through. The soup was delicious but the only negative comment was that it was too thin. If I make it again I will thicken it since my family seems to think when I say "chowder" they want a creamier texture. Thank you submitter.

Potluck Spareribs

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2007
I feel badly about giving this such a low rating after all previous reviewers gave it 5 stars. I give it 5 stars for the taste of the sauce and for the tenderness of the pork but unfortunately for all of us we thought the meat itself was tasteless. This was easy to make but if I ever use this again I would put some kind of rub or seasoning on it before baking it. My favorite ribs on this site are Freak'n Good Ribs and Baby Back Ribs - both must be marinated ahead of time - but it is so worth the wait!!!

Hawaiian-Style Chili

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2007
Loved it. I cut this recipe in half and one large onion was ENOUGH. I also decided to take the previous reviewer's advice and add in the juice from the canned pineapple. If I had served it immediately it would have been too watery, but I served it the next day and the texture was perfect. This does make a spicy chili so the pineapple does take a bit of the edge off. This is a keeper! My guy loved it.

Tomato Gorgonzola Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2007
Obviously this is rich but it is sooo good. Very complex flavor. Took the suggestions of all the others and put it in the blender. Would not have cared for it if I hadn't pureed it. Thanks submitter.

Strawberry Onion Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2007
It was a hit - didn't change a thing. Update: If you are watching calories you might want to switch to this one. I've made so many of the strawberry spinach salads from this site and love them but I'm using this one now because of the calories (or lack of them). I even halved the sugar in this and used raspberry vinegar and it is still wonderfully sweet. Thanks submitter.

American Potato Salad

Reviewed: May 30, 2007
I have three favorite potato salads from this site but decided to try this one to start the 2007 summer. We loved it and made minimal changes. To make this quickly - first start cooking the eggs - then take out the large bowl that you will be using to serve - I peel and dice the potatoes and rinsed them in that bowl to get out starch - put potatoes in cold water and bring to boil - then lower heat to a slow boil and cook approx. 10 to 15 min. Your eggs will probably be finised by then so cool them down with cold water. Then mix all the ingredients for dressing in the bowl - add the chopped eggs and by then your potatoes are probably ready to add. Very little clean up and no waiting time for things to be done - I added a tablespoon of ground mustard to dressing and only used 2 eggs but that is just a preference. I thought this turned out great and it was fast.
