Tonight, we are having my favorite slow-cooked pot roast recipe, which involves dry brown gravy mix, italian dressing mix, and ranch dressing mix. The first time we tried it, I thought the combination sounded really strange, but it turned out amazing.

I'm planning out meals for a balance of nutrition. I'm pregnant (16 weeks currently) and am trying to make sure folic acid is in my diet daily through natural sources, like romaine lettuce. I do break some pregnancy 'rules' like soft cheeses (I love feta on salads) and I don't always warm my deli meat (living on the edge) but my meals are healthy and full of vitamins and minerals to feed the baby.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I would caution against the amount of sodium in those packaged mixes. It won't seem like a big deal early on but later in pregnancy it can catch up to you. Spinach, greens, romaine, asparagus, broccoli, citrus, strawberries, raspberries, beans, peas, lentils, avocados, seeds and nuts, okra, cauliflower, beets, corn, celery, carrots, squash both summer and winter are all great sources of folic acid. Enjoy your pregnacy, it is a very special time of life.
