Simple Garlic Shrimp

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2012
Three words: won der ful I made it exactly as described, no modifications and loved it. In my opinion you have to do it as prescribed the first time to be a judge. AFTER that you can ad modifications, see below: Second time I made it I used white wine instead of water to finish the sauce. I liked that as well of course.

Oyakodon (Japanese Chicken and Egg Rice Bowl)

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2012
Fascinating combination of flavors. I loved it and will make it again. It sounded so good reading the recipe I just had to get real Dashi to make this. I had to order it via the internet....and I got plenty!!! This stuff is potent and a little goes a long way. After tasting the plain Dashi stock I am convinced there is NO substitute. I'm also sure there are MANY other good uses for Dashi and am searching. In any case I suggest making this exactly as the recipe calls for, at least the first time.

Chicken Honey Nut Stir Fry

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2012
I've never made anything like this but it seemed quick and simple so I tried it. I followed the recipe as close as I could making only 2 adjustments: I had no peanut oil so I used olive oil. I had no lite soy sauce so I used regular. I generally try to follow a given recipe exactly the first time but I had to make the above 2 changes. I also made the sauce separately first, thickened and all, to make sure I would like it. I did. This was GREAT!!! Really, really good, and the kids liked it as well. I will make it again for sure and maybe ad some heat and make a bit more sauce than indicated.

Pesto Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2011
Absolutely wonderful. I thought this might be a bit involved at first but found that so long as the pesto needed is readily available it's pretty quick. I had several jars of home made frozen pesto on hand so this was not a problem. I think this would go over great at any pot luck and get plenty of "how'd you make that" inquiries. Highly recommended!!!

Ethiopian Cabbage Dish

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2011
This is the second recipe I have found on this site that is far better than I expected, based on the description. The choice of spices and the oil in my opinion combine to make this absolutely wonderful. I am amazed how good something vegitarian and so so simple can be so good. I wanted to make it totally stock but by mistake added more cumin and turmeric than indicated, about double. Turned out great!! Next time I'm doubling all ingredients...ate this batch almost entirely by myself.

Italian Chicken and Chickpeas

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
This was really GREAT. I like Garbanzo's and in this dish they really work well. I did not use the cayenne because there is no way the kids would have eaten it with more heat than the crushed red pepper provided. I used brown sugar instead of white only because I like the flavor it can ad. This was really good and I'm making it again soon. I might try chicken thighs and a longer cooking time. Thanks for a good recipe, it's a keeper.
