I'm a busy newlywed living in south St. Louis with my husband, mini dachshund, and Siamese cat. Always trying new recipes and annoying the hubby in the process!
My favorite things to cook
Anything sweet - my favorite thing to make is any kind of dessert. Lately, I've been obsessed with my dehydrator and natural foods. My husband and I usually eat healthy, but we've started following a low-carb diet. We have a serious sweet tooth, so I've been branching out into snacks & desserts made with sugar substitutes... I'm having fun experimenting with new recipes!

Grandma Oma's Pickled Okra
This recipe as written is 3 stars - too basic for my taste, but 5 stars and YUM with my additions! I used a mix of 1/2 apple cider vinegar and 1/2 white vinegar. I added a pinch of white sugar, too. I didn't have full sprigs of dill, only minced dill for cooking, so I mixed this with the vinegar while it was boiling. I doubled the chili peppers and added a garlic clove to the jar of okra before adding the liquid. These were ready to eat after about 3 hours in the fridge. I will definitely make these again!

Baked Dijon Salmon
This was very tasty and a memorable dish! I added a little chopped garlic and a sprinkle of Penzey's powdered lemon peel to the melted butter. I used my food processor to finely chop the pecans, and used a 50/50 mixture of Italian seasoned bread crumbs & Panko for crunch. I baked the salmon for 18 minutes, and it turned out perfect! Thanks for the great recipe.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
I took other suggestions and mixed the apples with the sauce instead of pouring it over. I also reserved a little bit for the top crust. This was very, very good!
