I don't like playing by "the rules." I acknowledge a lot of rules are there for a reason, but hey, we're here to fart around. I have cooked with family and at home for a good 10-15 years now, but I have only been a totally solo cook for about a year. I'm lactose intolerant and try and avoid adding butter and unnecessary ingredients to recipes. I like to taste the food, not the butter. So I'll nix it if I don't want it.
My favorite things to cook
I'm lactose intolerant. My brother-in-law is diabetic. My best friend has both a dairy and gluten sensitivity, My niece has had problems with milk and soy. My favorite things to make are the alternatives. If I can take a recipe and make it just as good or almost as good with alternatives, that's good. If I can make it better, that's awesome. Mainly I like making dairy free dishes though.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is polish, anything made with vegetables is usually a favorite. I think I love pierogi (that's the plural, it's not pierogis), golombki, and begos best.
My cooking triumphs
Discovering carnival squash. discovering membrillo and goat cheese. most people are afraid to try anything new so I don't really know what's my best.
LOW GI Rice Krispie treats were amazing though!
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make a bad red wine into something good (Chocolate, bananas, breads, sugar...) the only thing that made that wine tolerable was mashed frozen banana, soaked in wine, covered in chocolate. Of course, you put sugar on a fly and of course it'll taste good.
