Cola Sauerkraut

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2013
If you don't like cooked cabbage you're probably not going to like this recipe. I used my divided crockpot, to see which way the sauerkraut was better: rinsed or rinsed w/ some of the juice ( and a little less Coke) added back in. I think the extra juice made a more complex sweet pickle-like taste & was definitely better.

Bacon Wrapped Pork Chops in Zesty Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2011
Sub'ed in Ellenmel's chili sauce recipe from this site, had no pineapple and these still came out quite good. Not so heart healthy so I will be scrolling thru the rev.s to see if anyone's made an adaption with the bacon. They cooked in 3 hours on low (my Rival crockpot runs hot).

Turkey Meatloaf Burgers

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2012
Very forgiving recipe, if you don't have exactly the same ingredients. (I subbed panko crumbs and apple juice.) Great suggestion by another reviewer to make the patties in a cast iron skillet so you can just move the whole thing into the oven. One less pan to wash! I did not find it necessary to brown on the second side. I just flipped them once and put them in the oven. They came out fine. Delicious with lettuce and tomato.

Simple Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2012
This is a little gem of a recipe. You can prepare it fast as is or can doctor it up if you feel like experimenting. I love that there's no dairy in it. I substituted part of the mayo w/trader Joe's wasabi mayo and that turned out to be an excellent way to go!

Delicious. Use sesame oil if you have it on hand.

Mayo and a light sprinkling of Montreal Steak seasoning make a tasty addition!

Garlic Caesar Chicken Tenders

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
I tend to look for recipes for the meal at hand so I didn't have time to marinate the chicken. It still came out good with only 15 min.s or so in the dressing!

Twice-Baked Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
This was such a good use of those leftover Thanksgiving m.p.s. And healthier the typical recipe for 2x bakeds. I was lazy and used real (prepared)bacon bits and they still came out good. I baked them with slice of pancetta on top, which helped make up for the bacon shortcut. Also, skipped the salt.

Asparagus with Lime and Ginger

Reviewed: May 1, 2014
This is delicious. It works well without the cilantro if you don't have any on hand. Just be careful not to overlook the asparagus. I'm going to try this with other green vegetables.

Simply the Easiest Beef Brisket

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2013
Frustrating! Tried this recipe twice & both times it boiled & the meat came out stringy and dry, despite lowering the oven temperature on the 2nd attempt. Not worth any more trouble as far as I can tell.

Chipotle Crusted Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2013
So easy & so delicious. I used the recipe without doubling it, even though I had almost 3 lbs. of tenderloin and I didn't turn it as often. Turned out great.

Chef John's Make-Ahead Turkey Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2013
What a relief to have this done ahead of time. For 10 people I should've doubled the recipe. The gravy was bland and pale at first, so I used an immersion blender and added some of the vegetables and a little meat back in. Then it was tasty so I guess that means I should have cooked the stock longer.
