My favorite things to cook
Love canning but struggle to get it done in the fall. My absolute favorite recipe is a "sparkling" strawberry cranberry jam, as it uses frozen berries and can be canned in the winter to give as gifts. I also like to bake, particularly chocolate chip banana bread muffins.
My cooking tragedies
Once, as a teen, I made two lovely apple pies in glass dishes. Good idea - put a cookie sheet underneath to prevent any overflow burning in the oven. Bad idea - transport the dish on the cookie sheet to the oven! The dish slipped off, broke into tiny shards (ruining the pie), and even broke a tile in the floor. I just sat and cried. Fortunately, I still had the second pie, which turned out nicely!

Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes
Loved the end result, though I did use others' advice and cut the sugar down a bit, also swapping in brown sugar, rather than white. I hate peeling hard sweet potatoes, so I microwaved first to slightly soften and peel. This made the cooking time much shorter. We did not have any leftovers, but this was a bit like a dessert, rather than a veggie side.

Granny's Brownies
This made a pretty good brownie. When baked at 350 it turned out just right, though I did follow others' suggestions and drizzle chocolate syrup over the top for that wow factor. Interesting, though, that after a thorough online search, I found almost exactly the same recipe on the back of the Bakers chocolate that I used! (They call them one-bowl brownies, and the directions were clearer with less fuss.) I just clipped that out and will use it from now on.

Meatball Nirvana
I found these a little too salty, so I think I will use minced garlic, rather than garlic salt and perhaps a bit less salt next time. But my husband has not been so happy with a meal in a LONG time! He had two helpings of these meatballs in Marinara Sauce II (from this site) over pasta and raved! Also, these were amazingly easy to make in big batches and freeze. We have a lot of beef, and I will be making these to freeze and provide quick meals when I am busy. Thanks for the recipe!
