About this Cook
Hello, I am JC. I am a mother of 4 grown girls, youngest being 17. I have 2 grandchildren turning 3 and 2 yrs in March. I LOVE cooking and baking and trading recipes. Now with an almost empty house I am cooking for friends and summer markets.
My favorite things to cook
I concocted a bread recipe that everyone seems to love and even buy from me and I sooo enjoy making bread from scratch. I love to try anything if I have the ingredients on hand.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have Turkey for Thanksgiving and Easter and both Turkey and Ham for Christmas. My daughter makes homemade almond rocha, my sister makes this amazing noodle salad and my mom makes apple danish ... cookie sheet sized. For family birthdays our tradition is to cook that persons favorite dinner and dessert on the actual day and then throw the party on the weekend, now that they are grown this still happens.
My cooking triumphs
I mastered canned antipasto 3 years ago. Was hard to get the spices/flavor just right. But I got it now. My most recent souffle (sp?) didnt fall. I was so happy, lol.
My cooking tragedies
My first yeasted dinner buns, I was 18 and they were hockey pucks. My fudge last week became a square pan of tasty runny topping for ice cream, Grrr!

Vanilla Crepes
These are ok first time around, but the batter is way too thick and 2 TABLESPOONS??? of vanilla is crazy, so I suggest 1 1/3 cups flour and 1 2/3 cups milk and 1 TEASPOON of vanilla. We ate them with strawberrys and the vanilla was overpowering and I love vanilla. They smell good while cooking and dont stick at all. Will re-try next week with less flour more milk and see how it goes. Couldnt just tip the pan to spread had to literally spread them.

Chemical Apple Pie (No Apple Apple Pie)
This was ok and tasty for what it was but I was shocked to find that people tasted apple.... cinnamon yes but not apple, lol. The version I have of this is 50+ yrs old and used apple juice not water. Otherwise was the same... and tasted like cinnamon and APPLES. Lol!

Fried Cornmeal Mush
Awesome! The slices fried til golden on both sides served with breakfast sausage and syrup. Yummy. I grew up calling this Hon Mas. I read some reviews, if you made it right its like a very thick gritty jello consistencey, I cut mine just about a half inch thick. Turns out perfect and I never flour to fry.
